Also, what are people interested in doing as far as the actual days, like Fri-Sun, Sat-Mon, Sat-Sun or whatever other weekend day combos there are

I should be good for June 25th! I can do any weekend day combos... if we add a Friday or Monday, I'll take it off work and it doesn't matter which day it is.

Seeing as I drove down to Ashville twice for PPK camping trip, I think it would be bad if I missed a NE one.
Acadia is amazing. Blackwoods Campground in the park is actually very nice. (Free showers and real bathrooms) If you all plan on booking there, the earlier the better. Also the group camping spots stink. They are mostly gravel and in the sun with no trees. We'd be better off booking sites in a specific area. Eden Vegetarian is an incredible vegan restaurant in the area as well. It is expensive 5 star vegan though.
Nickerson on Cape Cod is also really nice for camping. There are rail trails for biking nearby.

I'm in school all summer but if I can manage it I will definitely come, I LOVE camping but haven't been in years.

Oohhh. I love the idea of a place with trails for biking nearby!

yeah, I just realized that june will be prime camping season in Acadia, who has amped there before? Do you guys know the rates/availability? We could always camp nearby, then go to acadia for hiking etc.

I can do Friday night, Sat, and Sun...but I'm probably going to have to be back for classes on Monday. I wish I already had my schedule. Anyway, if I have to miss a day of the PPK shenanigans, so be it.
Acadia sounds awesome. So does Cape Cod.

So far June 25th would work for us. I was thinking I'd have to do some wheedling to get the bf interested, since he doesn't know (m)any of you, but he was as excited as I am!
I can't tell whether we've settled on a spot or not, but I went camping at Wompatuck State Park (Southeastern MA) last summer and loved it. It's a short drive to Nantasket beach from there, too, so we could go swimming during the day. (Plus it's called "Wompatuck" so that's pretty great.) Then again, I'm a big fan of any place that would let us be near the ocean.

When I was a kid, I always went to Wellfleet on the cape. Good place for camping, I think. The bird sanctuary is right there and it's not far to beaches/dunes and whatnot.

I like the idea of Portland, but I would really prefer not to camp at Acadia, since it's so far into Maine. Driving 5 hours one-way is rough for a weekend.

We could always camp nearby, then go to acadia for hiking etc. Here is the info for the 2 main camps: Quote: Seawall Campground is located on Route 102A, four miles south of Southwest Harbor. This campground is open from late May through September 30. Reservations are suggested; however, only a portion of the sites can be reserved. Approximately half of the campsites are non-reservable and will be sold on a first come, first served basis at the campground. Fee (per site, per night): $14 walk-in tent sites; $20 drive-up tent, camper, and motorhome sites. Quote: Blackwoods Campground is located on Route 3, five miles south of Bar Harbor. It is open all year, with the following restrictions:
In Season (May 1 to October 31) - Reservations are suggested during this time. See reservation information. Fee: $20 per site, per night.
Group Camping for Both - might be our cheapest/best bet Quote: Group campsites, which accommodate groups of 15 people, are located at both Blackwoods and Seawall Campgrounds. Seawall Campground has five sites, and Blackwoods Campground has four sites. Reservations are required and are made through the park (see below). Fee: $50 per site per night, paid upon arrival.
Grills, picnic tables, and fire rings are available at each site. Drinking water and flush toilets are located nearby. Showers and laundromats may be found a short distance away in local communities.
Space is limited. Keep tents and vehicles to a minimum. RVs are not permitted. Only three vehicles may be parked at each group site. Extra vehicles must be parked off-site.
Group Camping Season Blackwoods: May 15 to October 15 Seawall: Late May (Wednesday before Memorial Day) to September 30 http://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm

As I stated in a previous post, the group camp sites stink at Black Bear (Though I can't speak to SeaWall) . I camped there with about 12 friends we gave up our group site and took over a few standard sites instead. We were lucky they were available. Group sites are all gravel, in the sun with little to no woods around you. The standard sites surrounded by trees and much more private. A cluster of standard sites is a much better option. Though it sounds like something central is more convenient for most anyway. (Though Acadia is amazing.) Nickerson is great, but fills up fast. I've never been to Wompatuck mentioned above, but friends of mine have and they liked it. Lorraine Park Campground as part of the Harold Parker Forest in Andover is also another nice option: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/harp.htm

The only place I've camped around here was near Old Orchard Beach, which was awesome. Of course this might only be because I love OOB.

I've never been to Old Orchard Beach but my sister-in-law's fam does every year and they love it. I think it's on a New Englander's bucket list to camp/stay there at least once.

If Old Orchard Beach is closer, I think that would be better for a weekend. Acadia's gorgeous and worth it.. but a little far away for two days.

Oh god please no! I grew up in Old Orchard. My family still lives there. Let me tell you: it is a pit. It is just the most awful, drunken, tacky, overrun, wannabe Atlantic City on Earth. It is a disgusting place. Please don't have the meetup there, I beg you. There are sooooo many better places in Maine. I live near Bangor, about an hour from Acadia. There is a state campground near there (Lamoine State Park) that is great for camping. It's on the water and only a ten-minute drive to Acadia itself. Maine has some super state parks, and there are plenty in the southern part of the state. We've camped at Lily Bay by Moosehead Lake and at Cobscook Bay downeast several times. It's less than $15/night. Here's a map of state campgrounds: http://www.campwithme.com/doc/parks/reservations/app/maps.htmI am free any and all weekends this summer, and I'd love to meetup in Portland or near Acadia. I'll be bringing a vegan baby. I can offer a guest room and a pull-out couch, if my house in convenient to the meetup.
