Hi everyone! So these rules are mostly common sense and social grace. If you’re a person who is already drowning in common sense, maybe you don’t even need to read them. Or maybe if you were going to write some rules, they would look exactly like these, only in a much more beautiful font.

If, however, you are someone who occasionally says the wrong thing, wears mismatching socks, gets dirty looks for no reason, makes cupcakes that collapse or gets unjustly arrested, then give these rules a read.

Mostly, this is a cool place with awesome people that have strong opinions and a sense of humor. Many of us know each other in real life and there are always meet-up opportunities in which we encourage people to get to know each other for real. That is what makes the boards so great and why we spend way too much time here.

But remember that this is a message board. It’s not livejournal or facebook, it’s a space for discussion. To that end, expect feedback, advice, and opinions. Hopefully they will all be helpful to you. But sometimes they won’t be. So if it’s something really important to you or something that only your friends can help you with, maybe it would be a better to post it someplace else. We discourage things like “safe space” threads, because again, this is a discussion board and opposing views are welcome.

1- Keep recipes and food porn vegan. This is a place to celebrate vegan food, please respect that!

2- If you aren't sure about something, do some fact checking, and cite your source; it makes political discussions a little smoother.

3- We have a lot of usernames with "vegan" or "tofu" or "veg" or "seitan" and we even have a few "quinoas". It's confusing so try to choose a unique username. Also, choose a name that looks like it was chosen by a human, not a robot. Random strings of letters and numbers are apt to be mistaken for spambots and deleted.

4- Racist, sexist, homophobic things will be not be tolerated. Depending on the situation, the post will be deleted and/or the user will be banned.

5- We don’t delete accounts. The exception to this is if your life is being threatened somehow. If you feel like you need to take a break from the PPK, even a permanent break, simply log out and delete your bookmark.

6- Subnicks (the funny little words beneath your username) are not customizable. We sometimes change someone’s subnick if we think it’s going to be funny, but otherwise they just change depending the number of posts you have.

7 - Do not create anonymous accounts and create threads because you want to hide your PPK identity. The PPK is not an anonymous forum.

8 - Font colors are cool, unless you are coloring your entire post. Do not abuse font colors. Same goes for emoticons. Try your best to express yourself with wonderful words!

9 - The search function is your friend! Please use it and avoid starting conversations that have been had a million times.

10 - Active members are welcome to post about vegan products or services they offer in the appropriate forum, but not if you're dropping by solely to advertise and not otherwise contribute to the conversation.

11 - Be awesome at all times.

Does it have to be all three? I have this joke about a white man and a gay ladder that walk into a bar. It's pretty offensive to anyone who's either white, male, homosexual, or a ladder, so obviously that joke's right out. But is it cool if it's a white Australian and a gay ladder? I don't think any of us really care if we offend a country full of upside-down criminals.

This is probably a dumb question; however, I was curious as to whether it's considered bad etiquette here on the PPK to use actual cuss words? Just wondering, as I've observed the use of "forking", "asparagus", and "shiitake"...?

you'll notice pretty soon that you won't be able to use actual cuss words! so no need to worry about etiquette, we worry about that for you!

(but it's really all in good fun. food related cursing is funnier than using the real words.)

New rule #10 folks! It's kinda been unspoken, but we decided to make it more explicit.

You forgot to address the tiny grey text thing people do if they want to pretend they're whispering or they feel the need to say something like "just kidding" under a very obviously sarcastic post. My eyes are getting old! Those kids next door keep jumping on their goddamn trampoline and laughing, and I'm in here trying to read this grey writing on a grey background! Where are my teeth?

This is now kind of funny.

We've had a couple of problematic posts over the weekend, so I'm bumping this to remind people not to post stuff that isn't vegan!

A reminder about the "be awesome at all times" rule is also warranted for different reasons.
