We have these so often I thought maybe I should start an official one. I have sort of medium-long hair and have done for quite a few years now. I like having long-ish hair but I'm starting to get tired of it. The only problem is that I've had really bad experiences in the past with short hair (mostly because of bad stylists). I have thick, curly hair and have ended up with 'pyramid head' when my hair gets too short. The difference now is that my hair is a LOT thinner since having a baby and I finally have a stylist who I trust. I'm thinking of getting it cut shoulder-length(ish) but I'm scared! Tell me what to do, PPK! Pictures! (please excuse the gray, I've been colouring it since I started going gray 14 years ago and I'm finally trying to just embrace the gray and stop colouring) Front: Back: It's about 2 inches longer on the (very rare) occasions that I bother to straighten it.

We have the same kind of curls. My hair is not thick and I've had mine short in the past with excellent results. I had variations of a graduated bob for many years. I loved it because it was super easy to just wash, scrunch, and go. I rarely ever straighten it after I leave the salon, so it's curly 99% of the time. I think you have a good face shape for it, too.

Thanks Meggs! I have friends who have short curly hair and I am always jealous of it, I'm just so afraid that my hair is too thick to pull it off. I guess there's only one way to find out.
Bun - wooo!

Dude, the gray in front is awesome! As are your natural curls! A bob would be cute with maybe a layer or something just on the bottom? To control it?

Maybe just cut some off, see how it goes, and then if it works out, you can always go shorter if you're so inclined? I've never had thick hair, so I can't speculate on how that effects everything, but curls are a difficult beast to tame sometimes. I'm sure your stylist will layer/stack your hair well so that your hair is not too puffy and all of that. Long layers, maybe? I'm so excited for you!

Your hair reminds me a lot of mine, long, thick, and curly. I think it'd look great if it were just below your shoulders with some long layers.

I would just add some layers - your hair's so pretty! I'm excited to be all grey so I don't have to bleach my hair before dyeing it!

I love your hair! I wish my waves were that even all over. My hair is wavy, but in a very disorganized sort of way like it doesn't know if it wants to be straight or curly. It's so frustrating!
I think with the right products, you could tame the curls a bit and get a more polished look so you don't get the "pyramid" hair.

I say go shorter than shoulder length if you do cut it. Or a little longer. (which is kind of like more of the same)...
I've always had bad experiences with shoulder length hair because it sits on top of my shoulders and goes OUT. Which creates puramid head. ._.

Thanks you guys! I'm going to make an appointment this week and talk to my stylist, and see where we go from there! Nickalya wrote: I've always had bad experiences with shoulder length hair because it sits on top of my shoulders and goes OUT. Which creates puramid head. ._. Good point! I never really thought about that. sunnybear wrote: I wish my waves were that even all over. I've got full-on ringlets throughout the underneath layers of hair, while the top layers only want to be wavy, and some spots don't want to wave at all. I understand your frustration, really I do!

I have an appointment to get my hair cut tomorrow! I'm nervous!
Oh yeah, and to those who said to just add some layers - I guess you can't tell from the pic, but I actually already have a shit-ton of layers! It's also been thinned out a lot. I have a lot of forking hair!
Wish me luck (and hope I don't chicken out)!

i have the same hair texture, waves, and current hairdo as you but mine's red. i always end up going back to an inch or 2 past the shoulder with long layers cut in. anything shorter gives me triangle head and when it gets too long it starts to drag down under its own weight. good luck at your haircut and show us the after pics! :)

If you shave your head, all of the Poopies would match! Just a thought...
I think you should cut a couple of inches off...

You have really pretty eyes, and I think shorter hair would really bring them out.

Good luck! I hope you can go shorter since that is what you want (wanted? at least initially.) Your face shape is fantastic (and you're gorgeous!) The curl/thickness part is the only snag, and if your stylist can effectively shape your hair, it will be great!

Any updates on the haircut?? Also, since this is the official hair thread... I'm not entirely happy with my hair right now, so I'm wanting to dye over everything that I had bleached (the top section, which is bleach/pink currently). I'm thinking an electric blue, since that's something I've never done before, but I'm not too sure about it. Any ideas? I had posted a picture of my new hair on FB and here, but here's more what I usually look like (no makeup, no pigtails):

I think you should definitely go with electric blue! I mean, you'll be adorable no matter what, but I think blue will actually look really awesome on you. Sorry it's taken me so long to update! I got it cut on Thursday, and she cut 5 inches off. I wanted more, but she told me to live with it for a week and if I still wanted it shorter to let her know and she'll cut it again for free. Well, it's been six days, and I'm pretty sure I still want it shorter. I don't really like how much longer it is in the back than the front, so I think I'm going to tell her to cut a little off the front, and a lot off the back (more like a bob). As always, I need the PPK to tell me if I'm making a huge mistake, so... what say you, PPK? The pics! Back: Front:

My take on it is that its only hair, so why not take chances with it? Mine grows back super-fast, so I tend to have them take as much as possible off and get confused by mirrors for a while. If yours does too, I say chop it!

I had superlong hair my whole life and chopped it off on impulse and it was so fun. It's worth it just for the reactions from people you know! And it really will grow back before you know it.
