It's one gigantic bag in a box. Heating up a frying pan right now. This is huge. I've been waiting for 2 months!

They are dry, and reconstitute soaked in warm water (or broth) in 10 minutes. There are a lot of recipes out there if you google soy curls. They're better than a lot of other dried soy products because they're from the whole bean, not processed soy guts, and the taste and texture is better. Tonight I fried some onion, added the curls to the pan and after a few minutes threw in a bunch of southern fried tofu coating mix (similar to the recipe in Vegan Vittles). It was amazing! And so easy. The coating stuck right to them without having to dip them in flour and then soured soy milk first, like I usually do for southern fried tofu. This time I bought them mail order from some Seventh Day Adventists in Abbotsford, B.C., and before that from Viva Granola in Montreal. The makers have a list of where you can buy them: http://www.butlerfoods.com/wheretobuy/wheretobuy.html

We bought the 12 pound bulk box of soy curls a while back, and we are finally nearing the end of it, ha ha. It's great though. We always have some protein on hand that preps FAST.

I love soy curls! I could never find them where I used to live though, so my mom would send me a couple of packages every few months.

I've totally considered the box, but the storage issues are problematic. The soy curl fridge is awesome!
If you have the ability to smoke some of the soy curls you should do it. They're really good smoked.

Wait, you have to keep them in the fridge? Uh oh.
Oh, I see. "To keep fresh." Hm. I've had them in a giant rice container I got from the Japanese supermarket for, uh, six months? It doesn't seem to have done them any harm. It is airtight, though, so maybe that helps...
Anyway, we've been eating them and haven't gotten sick. Maybe we're just lucky.

Maybe we're just lucky. i never noticed that about them either and ours sit in the cabinets with the rice and beans and such. i think you should be fine (and we have yet to get sick as well), but next time we get soycurls i'm gonna stick 'em in the fridge. learned something new today. thanks, everyone!

Heh, we don't have that much space in the fridge.
I've been thinking of saving those "Do not eat!" dessicant packets to stick in with them, though. That'll probably help keep them fresher.

I really wish I had a clue about how to put photos on here, because I wish I could show you all the fridge. I had to take the shelf out, and the bag of soy curls takes up the whole fridge! jdfunks wrote: Quote: I just turned my beer fridge into a soy curls fridge! my hero. sigged. The last time we bought 12 pounds of them we somehow missed the part about storing them in the fridge. I had transferred them to gallon-sized storage bags and by the time we got to the last 2 bags they had definitely gone bad. They had an off smell to them and once reconstituted they got very sticky and didn't taste right. Before I realized they were bad I tried to squeeze the water out of them after they plumped up and the stickiness just would not wash off my hands. It was really gross. This time I put them in the fridge (and I put 2 bags in the freezer because I had room there) and so far so good!
