We had a reservation at Horizons last valentines day, but it snowed like a mother, so we cancelled. Haven't had a chance to go yet. Haven't been to New Harmony yet either. We don't eat out much. I would love to try all the places that sell vegan food, and I'm sure one day we will. But there are way more important things to spend money on these days. And we are always busy. Finding the time and money is hard for us.

Has anyone eaten at the restaurant part of Govindas?

I had the vegan pad thai from Mi Lah once. It was good, they are on my list of need to go places. I walk past it everyday and see the vegan brunch banner. I hear the waffles are amazing!

Never able to get to any of the places that get VT donuts in time. Oh well, the sticky buns and cake are good enough for me. I will get a boston creme donut eventually!

Yeah I agree that if it wasn't for it being the fanciest all-V restaurant in town, it wouldn't seem fancy at all. The setting feels to me like a tea shop, dojo, and drug abuse recover center rolled into one. The only all-V restaurant I've been to that is "fancier" is Hangawi in NYC. Wonderful. But still, not a jacket-mandatory type of fancy.

I've been to the restaurant part of Govindas once. It was alright. But it was just set up in the normal eating area of Govinda's to go, so it didn't feel too nice. The food was ok, not amazing, but not bad.

I'd like to try it again sometime.

i ate there once in the summer a table outside. that was wonderful. while we were there they received their CSA fresh veggies - it was nice seeing all the local veggies heading right inside to be incorporated into lunches.

I love that description. There's definitely a California vibe in there. Hangawi is my second favorite restaurant in NYC, after Pure Food & Wine, which is a little bit fancy. Now PFW is what I call ridiculously expensive. Hangawi is such a neat experience.

The fanciest vegan place I can think of is probably Millennium in SF? Maybe because it's in a hotel.

Still not as good as Horizons.

I think Horizons is both fancy and expensive. I guess I kind of have three food categories in my head (maybe that's not enough?): casual, nice, and fancy. Blackbird, New Harmony, Horizons. S'Nice, Angelica Kitchen, Candle 79. I'd call Hangawi "Nice but expensive." I like to go all-out when I eat out, and $50+ in one evening is a heck of a lot for me. Sharing 3 appetizers is a great idea, but I would be leaving annoyed because I'd still be hungry!

I once ate in the restaurant portion of Govinda's, when it was next door. It was a lovely yet overpriced meal that just made me want to head to Horizons. I recall the menu having lots of fake meats, which tend to bore me.

Has anyone gone to Mi Lah's weekend brunch? Might tomorrow with parents and I need your opinions before committing.

Literally back from there as of this moment and dying to share our experience.
Lunch: marinated olives, edamame falafel, asian pear frisee salad, caraway crusted tempeh ruben on pumpernickel, oyster mushroom po'boy with remoulade and fries, pb&j french toast, chocolate mousse cake with coffee ice cream and creme anglaise.

Everything was absolutely forking delicious! Go there as soon as possible!

I've done it twice. It's reasonably priced and the food is good. They bring out a plate of fruit and pastries and virgin drinks (sangria or mimosa). The omelet, the beer battered seitan and the sausage and avocado on a biscuit are standouts.

If I go back to Mi Lah, it will be for brunch. The pancakes and tofu omelette are good. I do not recommend the tofu benedict, though.

I went yesterday for lunch! The food was amazing. I went with the edamame falafel and Eric got the tempeh ruben. Olive oil cake for dessert! Now I need to go back for brunch.
