Who's with me?
It starts with spending too much money on candy for other people's kids, and then it's trying to figure out what to do about the dogs who will surely freak out. And then I find out the meetup kid group we belong to has a Halloween party today that I KNOW Livi would love. Of course you're supposed to bring a spooky food so I think of those awesome spider cupcakes someone posted in Food Porn, and I realized I'd have to make like 5 dozen! And that's aside from the fact that I'm sure that many screeching kids in one big room would give me a migraine.
So! Halloween Grinches! Unite.

I already posted on your FB, but I don't really feel grinchy. I just don't care. Everyone I know loves this holiday, and all I want to know is when I can start prepping for Thanksgiving. I don't care about dressing up or candy, I'm ready to get all horn of plenty up in this heezy.

I think that you are too cute to visualize as a grinch.
As for the issues you raise with respect to a holiday that encourages children to consume far too many sweets and approach strangers for candy, your points are all valid.
Spooky treats? There will be a ton of sugary treats at the party. Stickers or plastic spider rings will be way more popular.

So! Halloween Grinches! Unite. I'm just annoyed about my dog freaking out all night. I hope no one comes to my house. I don't dress up, and I will not, even though my friends are urging me to since there is a party tonight. fork that. So, I guess that makes me a grinch?

This year I am. But usually, I use it as an excuse to hang with my bestie and her gas mask.

Halloween grinch over here.
Especially at work, where it's such a big deal and the different departments go around the office according to a schedule and go trick or treating and you're expected to give out candy. That you bought. For grownups.

5 dozen cupcakes? Forget that.
I am not grinchy other than my homework is due on Sunday which means I have to do some time management if I expect to give out candy while my husband keeps the pups calm inside.

There's pizza and a costume contest at work today, and I just said "No thanks, I don't want pizza." Even though I know they would have ordered something cheeseless, I get anxious in a room with all those people trying to get to the first slice and trying to talk to "the new girl." I also don't want to get cornered by "overly-friendly guy" or "awkward conversation woman."
At least there's no office trick-or-treating, because all I have is almonds and falafel sticks.

my roommate just brought home two bags of (nonvegan!) candy. I really don't want kids knocking on my door. We had planned to go out Saturday AND Sunday to avoid them, leaving all the lights off in the house. Now I'll get to watch the premiere of Walking Dead with countless interruptions! yayaaaaaaaa. not.

Halloween Grinch right here. There is a Halloween walk in our neighborhood every year we take the kids to, but that's the extent of our festivities.

Made it through the party! I got to hold a newborn who was dressed as a very convincing baby mermaid so that was nice.
Trick or Treating is tomorrow from 6-9, so I'm done in 27 hours.
Now Christmas . . . Christmas I like. Thanksgiving is good too. New Years and Valentines = suck though.

That you bought. For grownups. You talked about this last year and I still can't freaking believe it. I love Halloween, and I still think it's incredibly tacky to trick-or-treat your office mates. You should hand out toothpaste or those little boxes of raisins. Maybe apples with suspicious looking slits in them. Oooh, or that trick gum that turns your teeth black! All in good fun buddies!

I used to like Halloween a lot, but now it's just so much work. So we're going to turn off the front light, pretend we're not home, and eat snacks and watch Tim Burton movies.

Sigh. Usually I love halloween, it's definitely my favorite holiday. I had lots of fun last weekend making halloween themed stuff for our bake sale. But all my friends are getting super excited for trick or treating and... I just am not. At all. And they're expecting me to be.

When did the candy manufacturers succeed in making us so terrified of homemade treats that you're expected to buy "fun sized" wrapped candy, which would be just as easy to poison...
Its such a mixed feeling to want to buy vegan candy, but to know that its harder to find vegan alternatives and most of the candy the kids want isn't vegan. I'd feel a lot better making little cookies.

My candy consists of mini oreos, dots, pixie sticks, laffy taffy, twizzlers and I forget what else.

It takes Chester approximately 20 minutes to calm down from ONE door bell ring.

Hear you on this. I am NOT looking forward to when the Emperor is old enough to want other kids at his birthday parties. I'm not a Halloween grinch really, and I don't mind trick-or-treaters, but 5 dozen (???!) kids at a Halloween party still doesn't sound good to me. At all.

I never liked dressing up, even as a kid-- school Halloween parties freaked me out. I hated it and just wanted to wear my normal clothes. I still don't really do the whole costume-thing, and I'm already a huge hermit...so I'm doing what I usually do on Halloween, which is eschew all parties, refrain from buying or building a costume, and staying at home alone with dinner and bad tv...on youtube, because I have no tv.
