That ad is like the jabberwocky of ads. Except it makes far less sense than that poem. It does make me rather frumious, however.

I wonder how long we have before the editor of ecorazzi and Bruce Friedrich write sanctimonious posts how vegans who have a problem with this model are compulsive in-fighters who are hurting the movement for animals.

Wow, a carnist who looks just like an AR activist. I wonder if the staff of VegNews photoshopped a bikini onto her for the burger ad.

Maybe PETA is campaigning to have animal circuses removed and naked lady circuses put in their place?
Then again, PETA is already a circus.

Did I miss the part where she's said she was even vegetarian? Do we know who the hell she is yet? Is there anything else to do beside bisque about who is using their celebrity (?) to campaign against circuses?
On a less sarcastic note, many if not most people can separate out AR issues like fur, circuses, pet overpopulation and consuming animal products. I don't see the benefit of slamming someone because they only fight for some AR issues given that most people don't do a damn thing.

I don't see the benefit of slamming someone because they only fight for some AR issues given that most people don't do a damn thing. Exactly this. I don't think an all-or-nothing approach is very productive. Circuses are bad and the more awareness brought the better, even through silly PETA tactics. I have no idea if these campaigns are actually effective, but assuming they are, the average person isn't going to discount the anti-circus message just because the model also eats hamburgers (something that most people also do). Obviously, she doesn't have much AR credibility now, but when it comes to mass media campaigns, her commercial visibility and credibility are probably a lot more important.

I'm shocked that any PETA representative would be anything less than sincere. Shocked. I'm more concerned that the President of PETA Ingrid Newkirk supports killing animals than that one of their bimbo models supports eating them, but both are hypocrites.
Celebrities should really consider what they're signing up for when they support PETA. They just want to score publicity points by posing naked or with a cute animal. They don't consider PETA's questionable policies or that people will question their own actions.

A quick Google search has turned up the fact that she was a host on the G4 network and was popular among gamers.
I don't think this is even the first time PETA has used a non-veg*n celebrity in their ads. I understand why you would think it was hypocrisy, quarrygirl, but I don't think that people outside of the vegan community would think that it was.

I, for one, know way too much about "celebrities," so I will fill y'all in. Olivia Munn is a fame ho. I don't like to just throw that phrase around but if anybody is a fame ho it's Olivia Munn. She's the WORST. Like, the total worst. She's mildly "hot," she's a terrible actress, and she was on G4 so men think she's a cool gamer chick or something. That's why she's popular. She was on a surfing show on Noggin or some shiitake and she poses a lot in bikinis. That's how she got "famous."

I have never met a non-veg that was that aware of Peta or their ads. Not that I doubt you, I just never have. But in any case I've come to the conclusion that Peta could not give two shiitakes about what vegans think of them (the "higher ups" anyway.) I am positive that they think it's awesome that they would get any attention over this. My joking response earlier probably echos what their actual response would be. They seem to have nothing but contempt for the vegan community concerns over their ads and actions.

All of the carnists I meet tend to think PETA is all vegans and all of animal rights. Quote: But in any case I've come to the conclusion that Peta could not give two shiitakes about what vegans think of them (the "higher ups" anyway.)
I don't think people can share that opinion enough.

Most of the non-veg*ns I meet talk about PETA's sexist, racist, fat phobic publicity hors d'oeuvre stunts and that's the reason they don't take it seriously. I don't know many people who are not knowledgeable about AR/veganism who even mention what their spokespeople eat.

Every person I know knows who PETA is, veg or not. And they all make fun of them and think they're ridiculous. Whenever I mention being vegan I almost always hear about crazy vegetarians and crazy annoying do-anything-for-attention PETA and blah blah blah. The general public is very aware of PETA. They generally automatically assume all vegans and vegetarians are gladly associated with and support PETA. Makes us all look bad.
