i need advice. i want to supplement magnesium for general muscle relaxation (especially to prevent TMJ issues, which i'm prone to) and to prevent soreness after weightlifting. i also wouldn't mind supplementing with calcium since i'm never sure of my intake, and so many magnesium supplements have it anyway.

any suggestions on good brands? i'm currently taking Deva's cal-mag but it needs to be taken three times a day which i can't always do unless i carry the bottle with me everywhere and i'm not really gonna do that.

and just how much should i be taking? deva has 400mg magnesium per serving (3 tablets), is that enough?

i also see a lot of cal-mag-zinc tablets but i have no clue what zinc is supposed to do. does it help with magnesium absorption, muscle relaxation or something else entirely?

I started taking magnesium when I was having my TMJ treated. It really helped when I first had to wear a plate and then I continued taking it after that because I find I sleep really well and fall asleep quickly as I take it 20 mins before bed.

When I was having TMJ issues I was taking it morning and night. I stopped a while ago but I got some more when I started exercising again and was getting back pain.

I use Ultra Muscleze by BioCeuticals but it's an Aussie company. It also contains calcium and lots of other nutrients but not zinc.

The serving is 5g but I tend to just put 1/2t in water.

thanks! i'm glad to hear that it really helps with TMJ. sometimes i feel like bruxism (the cause of all my tmj trouble) is this evil thing with no cure... very frustrating. here's hoping magnesium before bed will help!

ETA: is zinc irrelevant for muscle relaxation then? is there any reason to supplement it if your eating a well-rounded diet?

I take VegLife's Vegan Cal-Mag-Citrate+D. It's 3 pills once or twice a day. I only take them once a day.

I take Trader Joe's cal-mag-zinc, one pill twice a day. I have no clue why these three minerals are grouped together. I take it for the calcium, and wish it also had D, which helps with calcium absorption, so I take VegLife D too. I didn't realize VegLife made a calcium with D. Maybe I'll just switch to that.

i think that zinc is important for healthy skin, hair and nails. it also plays an important part in sperm production.
