ReesePryde hi! I'm just curious, what did you dislike about the food there so much?

I ordered some sort of bowl and I found that it lacked any sort of flavouring or spices and there was no texture at all in the dish. It was a warm bowl of bland food. My mother and boyfriend didn't like their dishes either and just my father ended up liking his.

Personally I love food that is alive and bursting with flavour and when you can change between textures.

Lol that makes me sound like a food snob but I'm not really!

Ohh the Aux Vivres coconut bacon itself is worth an entire trip to Montreal!

I did enjoy the food I ate there, but I have to admit I only ever ordered one thing off the menu because I was so satisfied with it. Their tofu burgers are amazing I find, and spiced really well with indian spices. They come off tasting really hearty. Then they crumbled that up and put it in a markouk wrap with a bounty of fresh lettuce, cucumbers and carrots with vegan mayo. It was the perfect sandwich to me and I could eat it every day.

So I guess when I say I really liked the food there I mean I really like that sandwich. I'm a total purist, and a food snob myself. I could see things on the menu being really hit or miss.

Is anyone excited for Viva Granola to open tomorrow at 10am? I AM!

No way! I didn't know that! I just placed another order today for jerkey's for my trip.

My boyfriend and I went to La Faim du Monde twice, and we loved all of our food, from appetizers to smoothies to entrees. It was really flavorful both times, and I am a bit of a food snob. Maybe you went on a bad night, reesepryde? Anyway, I'm sorry they closed; it was one of my destinations of choice when we go there, because they were also really good with my weird food allergies.

Alright, mes amies, my trip was significantly postponed but I am now coming from May 18-25th. Anyone want to meet up?

we can go to aux vivres... it's my standby and always pretty yum. or we can be crazy and try somewhere else.

Maybe the 19th or the 24th? I think we'll be in Toronto for the weekend, and 23rd is my sister's birthday. I am so down for Aux Vivres!

My husband and I are going to be in Montreal from 5/11 to 5/13. I have taken note of many of the suggestions on here. I was just wondering about breakfast places. There doesn't seem to be many of those suggested.

Anyone want to meet up at Aux Vivres on the 19th?

Also, my sister lives half a block from La Panthere Verte, AND she has a groupon. Score!

This thread has convinced me to plan a road trip to Montreal next weekend! Any suggestions for where to stay? I will have a car, but would rather keep it parked as I walk [roll] from one vegan restaurant to the next all weekend.

I really liked staying at Anne Ma Soeur Anne on St. Denis. Admittedly, the fresh croissants they leave at your door every morning aren't vegan, but all the rooms do have well-equipped mini-kitchens if you wanted to whip up your own breakfast!

I didn't get to meet littlebird (SAD!) because of my own fault, but I did get to Aux Vivres on Tuesday and had coconut bacon! Sadly, their chapati-maker was broken that day, so I had it in pita bread, but it was still great. The bacon is so sweet! I ordered a side of Dragon sauce like someone suggested. Tasty.

I really liked Commensal at lot more than I thought I would (amazing avocado halves with fried capers and vinaigrette!), and Chuchai (the cheaper BYOB bistro side). Green Panther was okay. cork and Bull was awesome for Canucks games. I feel like I was there 50% of my visit since there were four games on in 6 days!

For a nice and cheap place to stay I'd recommend Pensione per il Popolo , it's upstairs for Casa (veg cafe bar / venue, not too many vegan options but good atmosphere and nice coffee) and you get free admission to any shows there or at Sala with your stay.

I do not get the hate for Faim du Monde , I've always really enjoyed my food there and my bf is a bottomless pit , it's one of the few places that really fills him up.

I'd suggest checking out Pushap , an all veg indian place , just make sure you say no dairy when ordering. They have 2 locations and have vegan indian sweets.
I also really like Bonne Appetit Cairibes in St Henri. Ummmm doubles and sooo cheap!

Not food related but if you are in Montreal , you can't miss a trip to Drawn and Quarterly. It's a bookstore run by the comic publisher of the same name and is the best English language indie bookshop in town. They have tons of comics , art and design books , fiction , kids books , a whole McSweeney's section , a whole 33 1/3 section , a small vegan cookbook section , zines , silkscreened art prints ect. They often host reading and workshops too.

If you are a grocery store picnic type like I am , Segal's on St Laurent has the cheapest healthfood type stuff in town. Hummus is under 2$, they have tons of veggie meats and vegan cheeze and various snack foods including vegan chocolates. Last week they have half liters of soy yogurt for 3 for a buck. Just avoid the produce there. It's super disorganized so you might need to poke around a bit.
