I bought vegan planet and 1,000 vegan recipes months ago their the only cookbooks by Robin Robertson that i own and i figured with so many recipes you can't go wrong. I haven't seen anything in Vegan Planet that really appeals to me or that i don't have a better recipe from another book for so i haven't used it and i made a chickpea carrot loaf from 1000 VR that was super bland that i wud never make again and Irish soda bread which will probably be my go to recipe except i add more sugar because i like the sweet non-traditional soda bread. Anyway has anyone tried anything that they really love from any of the books, i might just be getting overwhelmed by how huge each of these books are.

I think the consensus on Robin's recipes is that they are great basic recipes but generally need the spices upping somewhat. I've only just got 1000 vegan recipes but am starting to get into it. I've tried the: Millet topped Shepherd's pie (I really liked this one :) ) Spring Rice noodles with coconut creme (needs more spice but yummy still) Berry Cobbler (good simple dessert recipe for when you have a lot of berries in the freezer)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of RR's books. I love 1000 Vegan Recipes. Its got so many fantastic recipes - its really my go to book for the carnies. I made several soups out of there that were to die for... the maple pecan waffle recipe is the BEST waffle recipe I have ever tried. I don't find the food underspiced, but maybe it is just a matter of personal taste ;) I recommend the rice noodles in coconut creme, the paella with green beans and artichokes, the aforementioned waffles, the versatile veg soup (with chickpeas), the broccoli noodle soup (with angelhair pasta) and the avocado nobake cheezcake. (these were some of the things I made so far, and can vouch for, as regards tastiness...but there are probably many more yummy recipes I haven't tried!)

Vegan Planet was one of the first vegan cookbooks I ever bought. I have the same issue with it. I think I do like more specific cookbooks better, instead of tomes.

I love these books. So far I am about one quarter of the way through 1000 Vegan Recipes, it will take a long time! I review a lot of the recipes on my blog, and there are a couple of other blogs dedicated only to reporting on 1000 Vegan Recipe recipes (My Adventures Testing 1000 Vegan Recipes is one).

Ooh thanks for pointing me to your blog. The roundups from 1000 VR are sooo useful. It's great to know what others have enjoyed when deciding what to make. Have you made the coconut choc brownies? I want to make them today.

Great texture, slightly crumby but very moist and fudgy too and that real brownie crispy topping. One note though, they are definitely not healthy. Maybe I'm just used to 'healthifying' things- reducing sugar and oil etc though so I'm distorted about normal baked goods...

Glad you liked them as much as me. I feel bad for neglecting this book when it turns out it's got great recipes in. I've been putting in some of the recipes from it into my weekly menu plan. I'm trying the Portobello Kalamata Olive Pizza tomorrow night :)

This is the best brownie recipe I have ever made and I get requests to make them all the time! I have loved every recipe I have made from this book. The marinades at the back of the book are all really good, the better pecan bars are amazing, the scones are great, and every pasta and burger dish I have made has been fantastic. I love this book because there are so many recipes and I can always find something to make with whatever ingredients I have on hand.

I'm on a real RR kick lately; I must be branching out. I made the ratatouille and 2-berry cobbler (but I used all blueberries per recipe note) for my omni sister-in-law's bday dinner and everyone loved everything! I felt like a big superstar chef and basked in all the praise while mopping my brow and giving exhausted little smiles -- and it was all thanks to two dead easy recipes. Love this woman!

I don't use Vegan Planet enough but I'm always pleased with it. One I really like a lot but didn't think I would and it's ultra simple weeknight throw together sort of thing is the tempeh simmered in sauerkraut and I serve it over eggless egg type noodles (they're semolina noodles but shaped somewhat broad and flat like egg noodles). Actually, I bought some fresh sauerkraut because I want to make that recipe this week. I don't even like sauerkraut so much, but I do like that recipe.

I just got my copy of 1,000 Vegan Recipes in the mail today. When I get home, I'm going to give it a look-see to see if there is something I can make this weekend. We're having another brunch for Christmas like we did for Thanksgiving.

I haven't made much from these two books either, but this thread is inspiring me to experiment with them some more. I've kind of neglected these books partly due to the overwhelming size, but partly because nothing really spoke to me. I'm definitely going to make those coconut chocolate brownies soon though!
Recipes I've Made from 1,000 VR: - Asian Flavors Fruit Bowl with Mojito Dressing - fresh and delicious - Pumpkin Bread w/Cranberries - came out great! i think i finished the whole loaf by myself within 3 days - Baby Greens with Pears - took it to a potluck, got lots of compliments from omnis
Recipes I've Made from Vegan Planet: - Alfredo-style fettuccine - AWFUL. tasted too much like miso, kind of ruined the dish - Vegetable spring rolls with spicy peanut dipping sauce - the spring rolls were just ok. the peanut sauce was not very good at all. WAYYYY too salty.
