Does anyone have experience with sterilizing a used breast pump from someone else and using it for your baby? I can use the autoclave at work, so I'm pretty sure I can just pop all the important parts off and toss them in there. Of course, the company will say that you can't safely do that, but they want to sell more pumps! I'm planning on getting the Medela In Style, just because it's always at the top of the review list. Any feedback on that? Thanks in advance!

i bought a pump in style from someone on craigslist. i popped everything off and boiled it. it does void the warranty, but i don't think it caused problems. i did get yeast, but i think that was a byproduct of the antibiotics they gave me at birth. i sterilized everything after the yeast and used the pump without the yeast coming back. I also sterilized the parts and lent it to a friend, and she had no problems.

My pump was also second hand and I steamed everything in the microwave prior to use. No worries.

My friend and about 3 of her neighbors all used the same pump. It just keeps getting passed on to the next pregnant neighbor which I think is hysterical and awesome. They have never had a problem with the parts after they sterilized them.
