I found an old toe in a ziploc baggy in my freezer. It's got a little green junk under the nail. Can I still eat this?

What about unopened fruit smoothie that's 12 days out of date?

If it smells and looks fine, my response is always the same: I would eat it.

If I left a glass of juice out overnight and a fly drowned in it, but I fished it's corpse out and made sure there are no legs etc in the glass, can I drink it?

Look at it. Smell it. Taste it. If none of those kill you...go to town.

I'm normally in the "if it's in a sealed packet and has been stored in a cool place it's fine" camp, but I'm having doubts about a packet of lemon jelly. It's in an unopened foil packet and it's basically just sugar, agar and flavouring I think, but it's about a year past it's sell by. Should I eat it (once I've made it up with boiling water and then let it set)?

This reminds me once years ago I had an unopened, old smoothie in the passenger seat of the car while I was driving to work. Out of the corner of my eye I briefly saw what I thought was a large balloon and then, BOOM! Smoothie everywhere! I was covered in it and it was dripping from the ceiling. Best guess is the smoothie fermented and the driving was shaking it enough that the pressure inside the bottle inflated the hard plastic lid. It also left a welt on my arm from the blast. Craziest morning ever.

So yeah, I might avoid the old smoothie. Unless it still smelled good!

Sorry about the welt but bwahahahahaaaaa! The thought of fermented burning squits does kinda puts me off trying it, like.. imagine if it had the same effect on my arse!

Sometimes I don't eat expired stuff not because I think it's going to make me sick, but because it's probably past its prime and not worth eating. This seems like one of those things to me.

I have really old Daiya cheese in the freezer (like, before they were selling it in nice packages) and let me tell you, I just ate some and it is still good. Should I have eaten it? Will I die?

If it was stored properly before freezing, it's fine. There probably is some time limit to how long you should freeze Daiya, but more for quality rather than safety.

Seitan expired 4/24/11??!?!?

So joshua totally gave me a way-expired gluten-free shortbread something or other and I just ate it. If you don't hear from me again, you know which PPKer is to blame!
