I just bought the cookbook on Amazon and a couple other vegan cookbooks. The book hasn't been shipped yet but i was wondering if any of you own the book and liked anything out of it or have gone to the restaurant. The cookbook isn't totally vegan but according to the reviews on amazon it can be easily veganized.

The Golden Bowl is delish!! And yes so many things are easily veganized. I love this book alot and wish I had known about the restaurant when I was still living in GA.

I concur! I had the Golden Bowl when I was visiting Athens and it was so tasty!

The book is supposed to arrive on monday but i decided to use a recipe from the book that i found online so i made the Spicy Thai Noodles with AFR Basic Baked Tofu. The Thai Noodle recipe says vegan but it contains honey so i just used agave instead, but it was really good and easy so i would make it again.

I will also +1 the golden bowl tofu! I may have written it down out of the recipe in a shop before because I loved that stuff at the Grit so much...

corn and potato chowder is one of my absolute favorite chowders. it's REALLY good with the frozen roasted corn from trader joe's, too.

yes golden bowl. I do just the tofu from the bowl all the time for my kids. Three soupish things in there I love: black bean chili (great for a crowd), cream of chicken soup, winter squash poblano soup (not the name of it but it's got those ingredients). I also like the iced coffee recipe -- it calls for pancake syrup which sounds disgusting but is yummy to me! My sis in law has the book -- need to get it back from her!

I adore this book. The tofu cooking method for the golden bowl is so delicious I find it hard to enjoy tofu now in any other way. Also, their vinaigrette dressing will make you never make another salad dressing ever again. Their chili is excellent too. There are some vegetarian recipes here but the vegan staples you'll adapt will make the book worth it, I promise.
thank god for this book, because living in Athens, I would be eating there every day just for the golden bowl and then I would be poor!

Thank you for starting this thread !
Being from Northern Canada, I hadn't heard of the Grit till this post. Last night I made the Grit style tofu and the Golden Bowl. Fabulous ! The kidlets not only ate the tofu, they asked for 2nds. This has never happened before.
I browsed through the Grit cookbook - it is available on Google Books preview. I'm also going to try:
Corn & Zucchini Quesadillas Black Bean Chili and Mondo Burrito
Jimmy Ray’s Butternut Poblano Soup Scotch Broth Winter Vegetable Stew
