BitterSweet wrote: bcakes wrote: I did my first baking project from the book this weekend -- the smores pie. I was thrilled that you can make a meringue like topping from egg replacer. Who knew?
Flavor of the pie was good, but my topping was a bit runny. I'm wondering if it is possible to over-mix vegan meringue? (The book says no, but I think after a certain point my topping got thinner instead of thicker). Next time, I will watch more carefully. I'd still consider this recipe a success. It tasted and smelled like smores. Hmm, any vague idea of how long you whipped the meringue? It's true, I haven't sat with it for over 15 minutes to find out if it could still take a beating, but I didn't think that anyone would need / want to push it that long, either. Glad you can still file that one under "success" though, that's a relief! And I hate to be so incredibly lame, but honestly, just having you guys baking from the book is all the thanks I need. I'm not sure. It's possible that I did more than 15 minutes. I left it whipping for a while while I worked on the rest of my dinner. Next time I will set a timer just to be sure I do 15 minutes and not more or less. I had leftover pie last night and I'm happy to report that the topping set up overnight in my freezer and now has the consistency of marshmallow. Thanks so much for checking this thread and answering my question.

I can't choose between the Cherry Macaroon Tart and the Mexican Chocolate Creme Caramel for the first thing I would make! If I do both at the same time does that count as 1? :)

I made the carrot cake ice cream today and it's pretty much the closest thing to heaven I've ever experienced.

Pupstorm! But this IS reminding me that I need to actually make something. (I'm not trying to win a copy of it, I've just been too busy/lazy to make anything yet)

It all looks absolutely nummy-licious! I can't wait to see it in person! If I had to narrow it down to one, that's hard but..the words "peppermint", "mocha" and "trifle" in the same sentence??? That sounds heavenly! :-)

thanks, hannah. you shouldn't have to specify that you meant to comment on your blog and not here, but apparently people really aren't that bright.

Comments here can only count if we get to pick the winner (p.s. the winner would be me in that scenario).

The link in her blog led us to here. How were we to know there was a different website we were supposed to go to?

How were we to know there was a different website we were supposed to go to? yeah, honest mistake. the only reason we were getting mildly annoyed is because there are a few posts telling people not to post here. You're supposed to post on her blog.

I ordered the book a couple of days ago, but it takes about a month to be shipped here. I am very convinced it is worth all the waiting. Can't wait to start baking from it, Hannah!
