Okie, some of these are hard to tell what they are cause of the neighbor's tree dropping crepe all over the garden AND it's been raining since Saturday so everything is muddy.

Ok and is this a raspberry? It just grew out of nowhere. It looks like a raspberry to me.

raspberries, yes. get some netting and throw it over so the birds don't eat 'em. feed it lots of phosphorous and potassium.

Well at least I think that's what they were. I didn't really notice them until I tried to move a plant, and then what seemed like hundreds would flutter off in a big cloud. They were tiny little flying insects, definitely whitish colored. So I assumed they were white flies. If I didn't disturb the plants and looked up close, I could see them all sitting on the underside of the leaves. At least I think it was just the undersides, if I remember right.

Once I pulled the mustards, they didn't come back thank goodness.

I am just getting started on things, but I'll have more to post through the season.

Herbs for eating go here. I edged it with old plates today and added more parsley and oregano.


I planted about five tomatoes here today, and bought three more. So this is the tomato area.

I love the edging too! I may have to go a thriftin' and steal that idea!

I don't have any pictures yet, but I had 5 cu yds of garden soil delivered today. I expected to haul it around myself, but kids just seem to love dirt. Two minutes after the truck left I had 3 kids come over and start digging and shovelling and helping me plant seedlings.
My garden is a mix of flowers and veggies. So far for veggies there's tomatoes, bell peppers and broccoli. As soon as I get the rest of the dirt around to the back of the house I'll be planting cucumbers, zuchinni, and butternut squash.

NOTE-these photos are about a month to six weeks old. my garden has really flourished since these were taken! to boot, someone just made an offer on our home, so i'm really glad i planted most of the garden in containers! this is a yucca. you can eat the flowers, make baskets with the leaves, and dry the root for soap. i just like the flowers. prior to flowering, these make huge pre-blossoms that look like large stalks of asparagus that you can roast and eat. i transplanted this one from a field, so i suspect it will take a couple of years for it to bloom.

"ditch" or tiger lillies. these grow everywhere in the midwest.

butternut squash in a hydro bucket. this is passive hydro. under the hydroton (clay pebbles) is coco coir, ground up husks of coconut. the roots get more air this way, but you really need to be on top of your watering game when container gardening with these mediums.

these are full of blooms right now. as long as i stay on top of my pruning, this bush blooms until early november, and i'm not kidding.

seed starting station. i did a side-by side comparison between the super starter plugs on left and rock wool. super starter plugs win. not good luck with rock wool. you have to pH adjust first and give it seaweed. not good germination rate.

naked lady lilies! also called surprise lilies, these awesome flowers grow mad foliage in spring/early summer, die off, then in august a delicate stem shoots out of the ground and produces lovely pink papery looking lilies. they are way aromatic too.

recently transplanted hostas from work in our front yard

you should see everything now! as you can see, i'm stoked about gardening. the jarusalem artichokes are coming up, and kind of sad that the new owner will get to eat them.

note: i'm kind of technologically inept, so i'm sorry if a couple of images show twice. oops.

Well, it was so sunny that I couldn't see my screen so I wasn't sure what I was really taking pictures of, but here's the plot now!





I harvested one strawberry off the little strawberries in this last pic here! I didn't take a pic of everything going on to the right of all this though, sadly. It was just so bright I was kind of feeling odd taking pics and not seeing what I was doing. Some of the plants are doing so well, really flourishing, like the chamomile, mustard, cabbage... some things though seem to be taking a while to get a foothold, the cucumber, peas, eggplant. Also, you can only see the tiny edge of it in the first pic on the bottom left, but does anyone know if lemon balm should be so bright yellow/white? When I bought the plant, it was very much green, kelly green. Now it is almost all yellow/white, though the feel of the leaves is fine, they're not wilty or dead-like. Maybe too much sun... The plastic is around all my tomatoes and peppers. Hopefully that will be okay until it gets consistently hot.

Oh and I am in love with hazelnut shell mulch. A bit pricey since I'm not willing to travel out to a suburb with a pickup truck to get it but my garden is the only thing I spend money on so I feel okay about that.

I'm so jealous of all your gardens! I haven't been able to start mine yet because 1. the rain here in NJ has been nonstop for 2 weeks and 2. I'm having a baby this Friday. I'm hoping while I'm recovering in the hospital my lovely sister and/or father will dig up the garden for me and plant all the veggies and herbs. :)

Last years garden kicked asparagus, except for the tomatoes, so I'm looking forward to it again this year. I hope I'll have pictures soon.

It's kind of too bad too, that the exposure of these photos are set so high, the tiles are so neat... all the ones that appear white are actually mostly not at all white, there's pink, greens, yellows, greys... Some are speckled too. Heh, talking about them makes me want to go there again and see if they've gotten anymore in since I last picked out all the good ones :P

And here's where I tried, and tree seedlings are taking over. Also, the thing is that I HATE the heat. It makes me ill. And it's been in the 90s here for a week, and not so great before that.

eta: and like my garden and I don't have enough issues, the maintenance guys came and cleaned my gutters and the stuff inside is all over my plants now.
