Hi there!
I'm planning a trip to Vegas and I am seeing some good packages at Stratosphere hotel. The reviews seem okay. One thing I'm worried about is food. Google searches are making it sound like a pretty dismal situation at most hotels/casinos in Vegas (except the Wynn, but I definitely can't afford to stay there. Might check out the buffet once though).
Has anyone stayed at the Stratosphere? Is the Strip as vegan un-friendly as Google makes it sound? I'm tagging along for what will primarily be a gambling trip (with non-vegans) so I'll probably be on the Strip most of the time.
Thanks!
ETA: but of course I will be making a pilgrimmage to Ronald's donuts. :)

if youre on foot or relying on cabs and such...thats not the best spot to stay
also the area around is a bit run down, not sure if that matters to you or not
vegas is amazingly unfriendly in general for food...lots of "americana" fare about, fried shot that was frozen, ice brerg lettuce...ect ect

i had a really hard time eating on the strip. so much so that i cut my trip short (but also, i realized when i was there that I don't like gambling...)
I had really good Thai at a place with separate vegan menu and also ate way too many donuts at Ronald's, but those were both off the strip. This was about 6 years ago, though, so it might be somewhat better now.

Thanks for the tip about the area, I've never actually been to Vegas before. It might be worth staying somewhere else as I don't think we'll have a car.
Hmm, it's only for 3 days, so if I have to rely on Clif bars/my own food in my room I will, but that's kind of lame as I'm guessing everyone else will want to go out for dinner.

I end up in vegas probably 12 times a year mostly for work and sometimes fun (was just there this weekend)
Id recommend staying at the Mirage, The Flamingo, or the Imperial Palace. Any of those 3 are going to be the less expensive hotels in the area. Its right in the center of the strip, its not too far to chinatown (ronalds donuts and such) And youre close to the Wynn for their vegan options...and theres a few spots in the Venetian that have vegan options too (noodle asia has a buddha plate and a tofu dish...pretty good noodle house, not too expensive, and Sushisamba in the Palazzo has items that can be made vegan...they make a tofu cream sauce for some of their dishes thats pretty great)
hope that helps

I used to travel to vegas a lot for work, and had to hunt for vegan places ON the strip, because that is where other employees and clients wanted to go. This blog is really helpful for on the strip places. http://thevegasvegan.blogspot.com/p/wel ... vegas.htmlgo to happycow for off the strip places, there are a few. there are also a lot of chain restaurants in vegas just off the strip that have good options (like a PF changs, i go there a lot) also, here are some places I went to and liked: Mandalay bay: the burger bar has an awesome vegan burger. The boarder grill has a plethora of options. that is my #1 reccomendation Bellagio: Sensi has a ton of vegan options including risotto and a nice pad thai and a bunch of good sides. thier veggie rolls are good too! Yellowtail is a japenese place that had a great bento box they made vegan for me. Actually, any good sushi restaurants are a good bet, they always have vegan friendly food and tofu Ceasers Palace: mesa grill. One of my favorites. ask them to make you something special with no meat, dairy etc. I had a fantastic veggie platter once with 4 different dipping sauces. sooooo good. Venetian/Palazzo: the grand lux cafe is really just a re-named cheescake factory. that being said, there are a ton of vegan options. i eat here at least twice when i go to vegas. oh sushi samba is awesome too! good happy hour specials. there is also an upscale type mexican place in the palazzo (i forget the name) and they can accomodate vegans too. by the way, i stayed at the stratosphere, and the buffet was terrible, hardly any veggie options. the other restaurants sucked too. Look online for better deals! I think the stratosphere is way overpriced for how crappy it is. I hope that helps...i have suffered enough in vegas. i hope you wont!

All Wynn hotels are supposed to have good vegan options because Steve Wynn is vegan.

Thanks Chicki - that's really helpful! Both your list and that blog.
Theque - I wouldn't mind checking out the buffet at the Wynn, but I definitely can't afford to stay there!
I'm seeing lots of deals for Imperial Palace in my price range.

If all else fails, there is a PF Chang's in one of the hotels, too....

Yup, all the restaurants at all the Wynn properties have a veg*n menu and the servers know what vegan means. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted for lunch! I wish I could afford to stay at the Wynn because it's really nice (in an over-the-top kind of way.) (Though, with any luck, I will never have to go back to Vegas again...)

I'm so grateful for the PPK. I'm going there for the first time as a vegan and it sounds pretty tough. I'm thinking lots of Tasty Bite. Adam, you don't recall the name of that pizza place? I'm going with omnis and I can convince them to eat pizza.

Oh, this reminds me, I was in Vegas, at Caesars for a convention in May. (Ugh i was there for 10 days, literally didn’t leave the hotel/casino for 4 days in a row!)
Anyway, it was cino de mayo and of course Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill was booked. But I took a coworker over there, and we snagged some seats at the bar.
Now previously I have gotten the vegan platter. It’s awesome roasted veggies + dipping sauces. SO GOOD. So i ordered that. They didn’t have it. Apparently Bobby is changing up the menu to include more vegan and gluten free options. The bartender remembered me from previous visits, so he called the chef to ask if there was something that they could make for me. I guess the chef was with Bobby flay, and Bobby heard that I was in the restaurant, and that there were not sufficient ingredients to make the vegan platter, and he apologized profusely and offered me a free meal next time.
TL:DR - Bobby flay apologized to me over phone via bartender about lack of vegan foods. THAT RED HEADED FIRE CROTCH! oh and more vegan stuff TBD.
