I've got it bad. Been using Nizoral twice a week for almost a month and have noticed some improvement but not enough. I mean these are big asparagus flakes. Help!

I don't know if it's vegan-friendly or not but I used to use Neutrogena's T-Gel shampoo; it worked really well.

It doesn't smell so pretty but Lush's Soak and Float shampoo bar really works. I'd heard before that eating ground flax helps with it. I haven't taken my Omega3 sup or eaten much flax/hemp lately and I have definitely noticed more dandruff, so maybe there's something to that.

I always have mild dandruff, but when the weather changes I get SUPER dandruff. I usually use a cotton ball to apply apple cider vinegar+water (approx 1:1 ratio) to my scalp and leave it on for an hour or so before washing my hair. Sometimes I do no-poo and use baking soda wash followed by an ACV rinse, but I usually just wash with some super mild unscented shampoo (Jason brand) with a couple drops of castor oil mixed in to make my coarse hair soft. The ACV scalp treatment is not a cure, but it sure does keep my dandruff at bay. I usually do it once a month, and once a week at most during the really bad, super flaky weather changing time (like now). I don't really know how it makes the dandruff easier for me to control, but I think it helps to get the dead skin off the scalp easier...

Question: how do y'all define dandruff? I was always told that dandruff is the yellow stuff that sticks to your scalp. But I've heard other people define it as the white flakey stuff, which to me is only dry skin.

Aveda Scalp Benefits shampoo + conditioner. It will go away with that, I promise.

I really like the Avalon Organics tea tree oil shampoo & conditioner. It works for me, and I have always had really bad dandruff.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll give em a go. Another question, should I be combing my hair before wetting it to loosen stuff or does that just make it worse? I'm mean I've turned into one of those gross people who are constantly picking at their scalp.

Coconut oil works for me. I warm it up, put it on my hair and scalp and leave it on for a couple of hours and then wash it out.

Then I stopped washing my hair so often, now use shampoo with very few ingredients, and stopped using conditioner. It hasn't come back so far...

It's not an instant fix, but I've read that having more vitamin e and/or more oil in your diet helps decrease dandruff. (If it's the dandruff that is just white flakes.)

Thanks! I'm going to give that a go this weekend in addition to the shampoos. It's never been this bad before. I think I have to cut out styling products as I think it's just adding to the problem.
