Ugh, water chestnuts. The texture makes me sick.

My nan was the worst cook, she used to boil chops, add barley and a mushroom cup a soup and boil boil boil till it stunk. I tried a bit once, it was heinous.

Also carob (seriously it's forking disgusting!), baked beans, marmite.

Oh and once when I first when vegan I made myself this pasta thing with cheatin' ham slices and cheezly. Oh my god it was sooooo disgusting! I haven't eaten cheatin' ham since. I've made peace with cheezly though.

Carob is disgusting, I can't understand how anyone thinks it can replace chocolate.
The first time I tried to make vegan biscuits they were really dry and inedible.

Non-vegan: raw quail egg with tobiko (crunchy fish eggs). I threw up a little in my mouth just typing that out.

Vegan: this packaged vegan "liver" that was made out of eggplant. Horrible, and I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth for days.

okra - too slimy. that's all i can think of. it's rare i meet a consumable item i don't like ;)

And also: My grandmother who I lived with as a kid was a terrible cook and ruined all sorts of food for me. I just remembered she would feed us peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches. Also PB and cream cheese. She made me hate tofu for a long time but I can't remember any spectacularly bad dishes with it in... And now I love tofu.

Ew. Ew. Why are fake meat products so gross sometimes? You'd think they'd make it less gross while they're at it, since they're already making a lot of other changes.

Speaking of which, vegetarian pig knuckles was another super disgusting food I've tried. It had that ominous indescribable fake meat flavor and the texture of tangled tendons.

durian fruit. tastes and feels like boogers and smells like feet.

I'd have to say canned peas. I've never been able to eat them. There is also green olives and smoked gouda (pre-vegan).

Marmite, okra, celery, mole sauce (chocolate in savoury dishes is just plain wrong to me), coriander leaves, fennel seeds, main-act mushroom dishes (like garlic mushrooms).

Pregan: rice paddy eels, balut, and 1,000 year old egg.
Vegan: some sort of mock chicken in black sauce that I got at 99 Ranch. I couldn't even chew it!

Most of what I can think of is non-vegan:

Back in Jr. High, I don't remember what the project was, but we had to bring food to pass out. I think it was something on nutrition, and we had to figure out the nutritional content? I don't remember. Anyway, two girls brought something, and refused to tell us what it was until everyone ate some. It ended up being cold calamari, which tastes like cold, rubbery, moldy French fries. I almost puked.

And this isn't so much a food itself, but: once I had grabbed a glass out of the cupboard without really looking at it, sloshed some milk in it, and chugged it down. I noticed something peeking up through the last bit of milk, dumped it out in the sink, and saw a giant wad of hair stuck to the inside bottom of the glass. The thing had sat in my brother's filthy bedroom, and somehow had gotten a bunch of hair from his hairbrush in it, and it didn't come out in the dishwasher. I puked right there in the kitchen sink.

Brie cheese. Oh dear God, it's what I imagine filthy toe-jam tastes like.

Once when I was in Madrid, I was sitting out at a nice cafe having a glass of wine. The waiter brought a plate of what looked like little croutons, so I popped one in my mouth. Nope, it was a cubed and deep fried piece of pig fat, with the skin and hair and everything. Taught me to look a little closer before I put stuff in my mouth!

Also, Scotch egg. Gross gross gross. I took a bite to be polite but that was about all I could get down.

Oh man, I used to make Scotch eggs for brunch potlucks because everyone went NUTS for them. If I could veganize them, I would!

this thread is super gross! i guess that's the point, but ugh.

Natto. It's like putrid chunky mucus!


ETA: my friend said bird's nest soup is the grossest thing she's ever eaten. Also, I had to look up balut and I can't get the image of it out of my head. Thanks, guys!!

I like natto, but yamato-imo (mountain potato, it's slimy and crunchy) is absolutely nasty in my opinion.

Stinky tofu. The worst by a landslide.

I like them in stir fries, but I have to throw them in the food processor to get them chopped up really finely first. The texture is pretty weird.

I've always hated seafood but I'd generally been able to avoid eating it until I went on exchange to Japan when I was 16. I had to choke down a huge tongue-shaped piece of raw tuna at dinner. Also once my host sister ordered me a noodle soup from the school cafeteria, and it reeked of fish with huge sloppy udon noodles and odd star-shaped pieces of some mysterious fish product. I wanted to cry because I could not eat it and I was so friggin hungry but I had no money left to buy another lunch.

Also my mums ex-husband, who I despised with every fibre of my being, once cooked corned silverside slabs for us (disgusting to begin with), but when i flipped mine over there was a huge artery running through the middle of it. it looked like a strand of clear tubular spaghetti. that crasshole forced me to sit at the table until I ate the whole thing.

The only vegan food I havent liked was mac and cheese. the cheese seemed to consist of nooch, soymilk and mustard powder and it tasted like bad breath.

Possibly in my top 10 best foods/foods I have lived off of in the past!

Shirataki noodles. It's possible I didn't make them properly, but they were so slimy that I gagged on the first bite and I couldn't go on.

One of the most disgusting foods I've ever seen: Aspic. With bits 'o' meat suspended in it.

I gulped down a raw egg while drunk once in solidarity with a friend who was eating them every day for health reasons and immediately puked in the sink which make me even more nauseous.

Slimy homemade kombucha tea also. Yuck.
