Hello!
Once upon a time in New Orleans, LA I had two very good friends. I have many stories of my good friends, but usually that's what friends do right, they generate happy memories. My friend Helen was an experimental filmmaker. She had a Rockefeller grant to make this very cool movie about a stack of beautiful dresses she found one rainy Mardi Gras Day. Unfortunately, her work flooded after Katrina and the Federal Levee Failures, but she got back on it as soon as she could to restore and fix things up. A few months after she and her family came back to New Orleans, an unknown intruder broke into their home in the wee hours of the morning and shot her at close range. She died instantly. Her husband, Paul, was also shot protecting their baby, but thankfully the baby was unharmed and Paul has healed physically. Paul just finished her film, The Florestine Collection, and we are showing it here in Portland. I am also organizing a vegan bake sale before and after the screening to raise money for Helen's pig Rosie. She couldn't go back to Canada with Paul and stays at a tiny sanctuary neare Helen's parents in Columbia SC. The woman who runs the shelter gets no funding for her work. We also are trying to cover the cost of renting the theater.

We want to sell out the theater. As far as we know, this film will only be showing once in Portland!
The bake-sale will run before and after the films--proceeds to pay for the theater rental and to support Wee Pigs Farm Sanctuary in Columbia, SC, where Helen's dear Rosie the Pot Bellied Pig now lives.

Experimental animator Helen Hill found more than 100 handmade dresses in a trash pile one Mardi Gras Day in New Orleans. She set out to make a film about the dressmaker, an elderly seamstress who had recently passed away.
