The perfect date spot for when you really want to get in that vegan's pants. And home of seitan picatta and vegan cannoli! Do you love it or what?

I was there this past week! I have never had better tofu in my life! I don't know what they did to it to give it that amazing texture, but it was MAGIC. And the ginger ale was amazing too (perhaps with a shot of whiskey for a touch of class).

I'm planning to go there for my birthday soon. I've never been to a swanky vegan restaurant. Seitan piccatta's the way to go eh?

I don't remember what I got for dinner here, but I know I loved it. Also, they make my favorite tofu scramble so far.

I've been there once and it really was amazing. I'd love to go back, but unfortunately it's just too expensive to justify a return trip anytime soon.

it's so expensive, and it feels so far away, and i haven't been on anything even sort of like a date in about seven years. their food is awesome, but i never go there. i do often buy their seitan chimichurri from the union square whole foods.

I do that too. The only time I've been there for dinner is when they were donating a portion of their profits to Farm Sanctuary. I rationalize the expense by doing something good for the animals.

Yeah it's certainly a once-a-year* kind of dining experience. I don't begrudge them the prices because I'm sure their location, staff and quality eats away at their profit.
*Although I make people take me there more often that that.

yeah, it's always a special occasion place for us, but I really really like it except I've still never had a dessert that I've been crazy about! I need to try that canoli. i looove the picatta and the chimmichuri and pretty much any other seitan thing they have there. don't get the paella, it's really boring.

I had some chocolate peanut butter mouse there that was simply unbelievable. The rest of the food was tasty--I guess... but shiitake, chocolate trumps all.

I did brunch there when we were in NY over Memorial Day and it was wonderful. Easily the best meal of the trip.

Just went this week when my husband's boss was in town with his wife. They revealed they are "mostly" vegetarian, and we knew the company would be paying so we took them there. I had only been once years ago, or maybe it was even Candle Cafe. This time around everyone loved the food. The chimichura appetizer was amazing, and I had the special entree, which was pecan and something crusted seitan. Crispy and delicious. Dessert was the mexican brownie with cinnamon ice cream, total chocolate heaven. Wish I could afford to go more often. And even though it's way uptown, at least it's right by the 6 train.

oh my god, I actually went here!!!! I loved it, of course. My dad was meh about it. He didnt like the piccata, which I loved. I agreed that the seitan wasnt awesome though. I prefer YRRs! But, everything was forking delicious. The squash rav was my favorite, the kale salad was amazing and the kale wasnt chewy at all! We asked for a taste of the soup-celery root-it was meh. The chickpea thing was pretty good, and the cannoli filling was delish, but I thought their icecream was awful. full of ice crystals. their gingerale was pretty banging, and I thought the waitstaff was great too. so yay! I cant believe I ate here

We're going here this week for our anniversary dinner. I've only been to Candle Cafe, I'm super excited!

I have been wanting to try Candle 79 for a while now. Their cannolli sounds amazing. But they have a B health score so I won't be going there anytime soon.

Ok, I am drooling over the menu. I'll be going here tomorrow for lunch. Help me decide between:
1. black bean pumpkin seed burger 2. bbq seitan sandwich 3. burrito
I can honestly say that I have never been so tempted by so many things on one menu. I am usually somewhat picky but damn...I want it all!!!

go for #2. I'm sure their burritos and burgers are great, but seitan is one of their specialties, and you can get burgers and burritos at lots of places.
