K I really am craving tomato pie. It has been like 16 months now. Is it anywhere in this city? Has anyone told Blackbird to get going on it?

I used to really like the tomato pie at Allegro's near UPenn in West Philly.

I'll post the suggestion on their facebook page. But I did just find some good tomato pie near me in Jersey. Had some over the weekend. I had to get on the phone with the owner/italian chef to tell him how and what I wanted. I thought for sure it would be a flop. But it was really good. If anyone is ever in Runnemede, NJ then get one of these from Portofino pizzeria and restaurant on Evesham Rd. And then bring it to my house!

I could be wrong, and maybe Eric. can confirm, but I think Carmen's Pizza in Ridley Park does a good tomato pie. It's not really easy to get to, but maybe one day we can all have a giant pizza party and can get some from there (they also have amazing garlic knots).

Going back to Blackbird, I haven't been there since January!! I might have to change that and swing by this weekend. Has anyone tried their salads? I am want to try out the caesar dressing.

You could go to Trenton for some Trenton style.

For all it's alleged flaws, I love the pie at Tacconneli's in the northeast. It's a pain to get to without a car.

Ya'll are going pretty far for a tomato pie when there are 2 above average spots in west philly. Allegros and the Best House both have sicilian style tomato pie and both are reallllyyy good. Best House also has vegan garlic knots, allegros might be, but i've never confirmed.

Also, I ate at Carmen's in Ridley Park once since they do daiya pies, and I got super sick and never ate there again. I remember it being pretty subpar too...at least the staff/owner was nice...i just think they don't handle cross contamination well.

Blackbird's ceasar salad is pretty good. It's awesome if you get a slice to eat with it and dip the crust in the dressing. Yum yum.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was an isolated incident, it was right when they started offering vegan menu options. It's pretty neat that they offer vegan things to begin with in those parts!

Ohh yeah, south philly italian bakeries for real deal tomato pie!

Good call! I've never had Allegro's pie, but I used to go often for their pizza. Hrmm... it's sorta right down the street, and I was looking for something to eat tonight...

Joes Brick Oven Pizza on 16th between Walnut & Sansom makes a pretty ok Tomato Pie.

Thats a bummer, its says new location on their site! Seriously, go to the one is South Philly. Everyone needs Sicilian Tomato Pie in their life! Ask for it with fresh garlic and basil if they will let you.

I'm for lunch one day soon if you are! It's always way packed out though, like lines out the door onto the street packed out.

Yes please!

Or maybe when it's not 1000 degrees out and I'm here on a weekend, we finally have a picnic in a park?! And get a big whole pie from South Philly...and ice cream...and other awesome fun stuff like games.

So I saw on Blackbird's menu that it now says tomato pie - is that the good kind we've all been wanting? Or is it just cheeseless regular-shaped-and-crusted pizza?
