There seems to be some confusion about spoilers lately, so I thought I'd just list the general guidelines. Basically, the spoiler tags should be used when discussing things that have NOT yet happened in a television series. Here's a quick list of DOs and DON'Ts.

DOs...
1. Use the spoiler tag when discussing plot details that will happen in a FUTURE episode.
2. Use the spoiler tag when responding to a spoiler if your response is revealing.

DON'Ts...
1. Use the spoiler tag for things that have already aired. It's really up to an individual to dodge a thread if they aren't current.
2. Use tags for personal speculation. If you are just discussing what you think might happen, it's not a spoiler.
3. Post a link without a short description. (Examples: "Next Season Plots" or "Season Wrap Up")
3a. Tags aren't really needed if a link address doesn't reveal anything.
4. Use spoiler tags for previews/trailers for a new episode or season.

I hope this clears everything up. Don't overthink it! If it hasn't happened yet, tag that bisque. Haha.

Oh, and on this one:

Sometimes just the image of the youtube link can contain a spoiler. Like, you'll see a reoccurring character thought to be dead or a certain kind of monster that gives away a plot point or something. That's when I put those under the spoiler tag.

Yeah. I'm going with use common sense. If the preview is playing on the network right after the most current episode, it's really not a spoiler.

And, for clarification? If a show/episode has been on tv somewhere, anywhere, in the world does that mean it has been aired? I would assume so. For instance, if someone in France was to start a thread about the (forking awesome, you should all watch it right the hell now) show Spiral before it had aired anywhere else, they wouldn't need to use spoiler tags right?

no, they wouldn't.

that's not really an issue. if people haven't watched a show yet, they shouldn't go in the thread.

PS, if you're going to remind me that I did that in the Doctor Who thread, that was different because I didn't know that the UK was ahead of the US until I saw the thread. (I'm still mad about getting yelled at in there for asking a question)
