i don't know anything about dr who. the project was to take one public image and one personal image and combine them to form a narrative. i've since fixed the eyes and brows of this angel...so i used an angel statue and the evelyn evelyn thing because the day i went to see the show (including time spent before the concert) has thus far been the best day of my life, but the person i was with i don't see anymore, and it makes me so forking sad, so i kind of wanted to allude to that, and also the way angels impose judgment upon things when juxtaposed with them. the angel is basically asking for mercy for this two-headed elephant. bffs - joined the hip - conjoined twins - elephant in the room. i also like to hold secrets, so painting is a way of telling them without saying anything at all. a few people interpreted it as a political statement, too, because the republican symbol is the elephant, and the stars and stripes, etc. it wasn't intended to be a political statement but people look at me and assume i'm always making political statements with my art. one guy thought that my astronaut-gunfight drawing (seen below the painting) was a comment on the militarisation of space. maybe the underlying political themes come from my subconscious.

That's really interesting! I asked about dr. who because there's an episode called Blink that's all about murderous weeping angel statues.

This is my class mural that I designed and did a lot of the painting for (most stuff except for the flower petals). It's in a narrow hallway so it's nearly impossible to get a good shot of it.

I paint, sort of! I do a lot of mixed-media collage type stuff, with acrylic paint and paper and ink and whatever else. It's been a LONG time since I've done a straight-up painting though. The background in the first one is shredded pieces of an old journal.

Anybody still painting out there? I haven't touched anything in a while, but started back to class last night. Should finally finish a small painting that I stopped mid-stream last fall! I was really close too, but when I'm not in class I just don't seem to carve out the painting time.
I also have a couple ideas floating around in my head that are way beyond where I think my ability level is, but I may just have to try them anyway.
ETA: pixel, the idea of your mixed media paintings is so intriguing

At least my niece tells me the Arabic was fairly close and I didn't curse at anyone in my painting: I'm not a huge fan of doing landscapes, but it's a demo that the instructor does with the whole class. After 6 months of sitting in my room not quite done, I finally finished my lion. I only wish I had done it bigger than 9x12!

You need to put it on a third party site like flickr. Then you can use the Img button to insert the code. In flickr, to get the code, you right click on the photo choose the size, then you right click the image in the correct size and "copy image url"
