i totally totally totally want to start working with rubber stamps and preferably make my own.. anyone in to rubber stamping here? i am mostly interested in vintage sets and making my own, but any oldie geeks who has interesting sources/tips/know where to get vintage rubber stamps without forking over a fortune, please share!

I am into carving. You can get a Speedball set for stamps for about $19 in the US. I also have seen some nice repo vintage stamps in catalogs!

I love rubber stamps -- especially old wood-backed ones that look like they've been well loved. I've carved some of my own as well, using supplies I bought at Blick's Art Supplies. It's harder than it looks but it's super fun.

I have the tree & owl set.

i've tried carving my own into a pink eraser. i love doing it, but i cut my finger pretty badly on new year's day 2009 with an exacto knife. now i use carving tools for wood.

i have made a few sets of cursive alphabet stamps from used bicycle innertubes and old wooden thread spools. innertubing works great!

LOVE stamps! I make my own to use in collages, some hand-carved, but I also make photopolymer stamps from my illustrations (you can capture a lot more detail). I'm just really into low-tech printing processes (I own 4 goccos!) & love paper & ink. I'm not sure where would be the best place to buy cheap vintage stamps other than Etsy & Ebay. Scouring local markets might be more time-consuming, but will probably work out cheaper. Love those little vintage type sets, but you usually get missing letters.

As for exactos...I almost lost the top of my thumb cutting a stencil a few years back. Ouch!
