I recently started going out with this totally awesome guy, and we've been in a very prolonged honeymoon phase where we just want to spend every minute of the day together. unfortunately that's hard to do sometimes since I have an extremely busy school and work schedule, so the little chunks of time that we manage to get for ourselves are very precious and usually involve going out to eat somewhere (lucky for me he's a vegetarian and pretty much 90% vegan except for the occasional cheese in his burritos), but that's become pretty taxing on our bank accounts. same for going to the movies, although I've just started downloading everything we've wanted to watch.

but anywho! the reason I come to you, dear PPK, is because I want to come up with some creative and cheap date/spending-time-together ideas that don't involve too much time. I've started teaching him how to cook which has been pretty fun, and we try to go on bike rides around town as often as possible, so it could be something as simple as that. maybe something crafty too?

Maybe it's cheesy but I like going on picnics - just grab a baguette, fresh fruit, olives, salad etc and a bottle of wine if you can drink in the park there.

I was going to say picnics and art galleries. Mr. LL and I love walking through art galleries, especially if a museum isn't an option. We picked up this habit as broke students, and it's still the first thing we do when we go to a new place. We also used to do cheesy "honeymoon" things like go to the park to swing on the swings, fly kites, or sit and watch soccer games. The world can be pretty entertaining when all you really want to do is hang out with the boy.

Art galleries, or anything like that where you get to share in an experience together.

I used to make little maps for my girlfriend (now wife) that showed her the journey of our day. Each destination had a little tab to tear off and reveal what our next stop would be. Normally it was stuff like an art gallery, walking around the Boston Public Library (TONS of art and cool old maps, for anyone in Boston who doesn't already know that...), stopping somewhere to take pictures of each other/architecture, etc.

Everything (except lunch) on the map was free, and yeah we just walked around the whole day, but the fact that there was something a little gimmicky and interactive made it more fun and special. Maybe do a scavenger hunt sort of thing? I'm sure if you search around your city/area you can find plenty of free stuff to include on the hunt.

Here are some of my fav's
-The beach (and perhaps a roadtrip to get there!)
-Doing random (free) touristy things in your city, I feel like you can live in a city forever and still not have seen half of it!
-Try to find outdoor festivals in your area, a lot of them are free or very cheap
-Try to find a park with trails that you can both go explore
-Game night?

And always pack your food, that way it stays cheap!

video games, picnics, walks, running errands together, just getting coffee/tea when you have time, go to an arcade for awhile, farmers markets... that's all I've got for now.

I am a huge fan of geeky dates.

-Playing boardgames or cards is always good for alone time and interesting conversations
-Go for a walk, hike, bicycle, roller skate, skateboard, drive etc.
-Rent a movie and make a meal at home
-Museum!!! They are so much fun and this also sparks good conversation plus you can learn together
-Go to a poetry reading or open mic night at a local cafe, those are usually pretty inexpensive
-Puzzles! Lots of fun and you can do it all in one go or it could be an ongoing project
-Take a walk and snap photos or video of each other being goofy
-Create a scavenger hunt

Bowling, wine tasting, minature golf, amusement parks, fairs, and carnivals. Museums and hidden free attractions for sure. Mall walking or Barnes & Noble sitting. I love the pinic idea.

get naked!
(that was my first date with my now love of four years, and we still have the things we got from garage sales...)

and bike rides!!! i see you've got that covered, but it's my favorite thing in the world to do with someone.

How about going to an animal rescue and walking or grooming some animals for an afternoon?

Wandering around museums is always fun. My bf and I spent 8 hours in the Phila Museum of Art before we even started dating. Also, we went to the Mint. Seriously. It was fun bc it was so ridiculous. We often went to random places like that, and we made it really fun.

go for walks in strange new places, do graffiti together, drive around listening to music, cook meals together while listening to music, paint something together, paint on each other, wander aimlessly until you are at a dead end

all these ideas are totally awesome! I have a picnic double-date on my agenda for sometime this weekend that I'm super excited about. :D also, earlier this week we made sushi and watched Dexter together, tomorrow we're having a movie night, and Friday we're gonna go on a 20-ish mile bike ride somewhere purdy. woo!

these are all really fun ideas.
I maintain that the best date i've ever been on was when a guy took me to the franklin institute (in philly) and we just explored, and went to the planetarium show, and in the giant heart, and we made paper! it was super fun and it was actually free since he got some sort of pass through his school.

Go to your local library, they will often have free passes you can check out for a day or two to places like arboretums or museums. At the library where I used to work we had a pass to the morris arboretum and that thing was rarely taken out because no one knew about it (except me, I checked that out like every other day)
