Anybody ever get any unwanted presents?

I just had a bday and always have an Amazon wish list, just to be sure that people know what I want. Well, a family member gave me bunny slippers (the Monty Python bunny). This is a problem for three reasons: my companion animals are not nice to character slippers, the Holy Grail is my least favorite Monty Python movie, and I already have 3 pair of slippers. I wish I could re-gift them, but I don't have close friends or family that would like them--except maybe the people who gave them to me and that would be very uncool!

my aunt always sends me heavy, fuzzy socks for my birthday. they're cute but useless, because my landlord keeps the heat in my building at roughly 18,000 degrees all winter. just put the slippers on ebay. even if you only get a dollar for them, it's a dollar you can spend on something you actually want.

Every single year my aunt gives me cat things. I have pewter cat statues, cat earrings, glossy cat calendars, cats on picture frames, cat porcelain statues, expensive cat crystal. I am in my 30s and haven't had a cat since I was in college, and my partner is allergic. I still love cats, but I am not a cat statue person! She's been to my house and seen that I am not a cat knick-knack person. I bring them to Goodwill every year and know that they will make some eight-year old very happy.

Oh my, yes. My dad bought me leather Caterpillar boots for my 19th birthday (ugh, thanks, Dad.)
Both grandmas always gave horribly awkward gifts, last time one of them gave me a plain, white handkerchief for "when I get married."

...what. Someone please tell me how that makes sense.

what?!?! this is cracking me up, but i have no idea why, because i can not begin to guess what it's all about. i keep thinking of the grandma in the griswold family christmas movie who just wraps up things she finds around her house to give out as gifts.

Hahaha, yeeeeeah... I don't know what to think. At the time, I was single anyway so it made absolutely NO sense. The same grandma also gave me this Avon figurine thing from a contest she won, she I'd have something to "remember her by." I dunno where she's planning on going. o.O

I don't hate you, but I wish you lived close enough that I could sell them to you. I don't do ebay or I would put them up there...

I get things I don't like and I just ask my boyfriend's sister if she wants it or other friends. If no one wants it I send it to GoodWill or save it for a yard sale.

After the holiday season we should totally have a PPK unwanted gift exchange.

I just got one today! My grandmother is about 12 years behind in my tastes. She bought me an "artistic" photograph of an abandoned house with a gothic dude mourning over a tomb. I'd have loved it as a 12 year old gothling. At 24, it's hideous and tacky. I wish I could get rid of the thing.

People tend to get me cat related items because I love love love cats but they are usually super ghetto, shitty cat things like dollar store frames with creepy cats or cheap cat necklaces, etc. Sometimes I keep them or just give them away.

I have a feeling this thread is going to crack me up. I'm already laughing. Maybe the handkerchief could be your "something old" at your wedding? No idea.

For my boyfriend's last birthday, his dad got him an inflatable salad bar. What the heck is that? It's an oblong, table-top blow-up raft type of thing that you fill with ice and put cold salad bowls, etc on to keep them chilled. It sounds like a neat idea, but it's completely hideous and will never, ever get used.

I'm kind of surprised, but the only bad thing I've ever gotten were earrings that I couldn't wear because my ears were stretched. My mom just wore them instead. I usually like what I get!

This is what punksbay was good for. Save them for the next swap and send them off to another PPKer.

Haha, no! He's not vegan, and he certainly doesn't go around eating salad!

My one grandma gave me a clown puppet that played music and danced - when I was 20.

My other grandma gave me a wool sweater and a matching wool purse - that was multi-tiered with wool tassels. She also got me a pink velour jumpsuit that said "cutie" on the butt. Both of these gifts were given to me in my early 20s. She would also give me really waxy, not vegan, yucky makeup in hideous colours. Every year I'd get some shade of coral lipstick in my stocking, and usually some chalky blue eyeshadow too.

Lists are a good thing.

Blue Man Group gift certificates. If I understand correctly, I could use them and STILL have to pay money to see Blue Man Group (I apologize to anyone who likes Blue Man Group.)

Also: Guinness pantaloons with extremely tight leg holes.
