Hi! I have boxes upon boxes of clothes, shoes, kitchen stuff, more clothes, more clothes, more clothes, to bring to thrift stores/Goodwill/whoever will take it and give it to needy. I could find a random Goodwill to give it to, but are they good local organizations that might want some? What does Food Not Bombs need?

Please, please, please consider The Career Wardrobe. They are a non-profit that provides professional attire to women who are transitioning into the workforce. They mainly need professional clothing. Their sister store, The Wardrobe Boutique, sells much of the rest of the donated clothing that may be a little too flashy or fancy for The Career Wardrobe and all the proceeds benefit the services provided by The Career Wardrobe. Please note that they prefer a hand-picked selection of clothing that is work-appropriate/boutique-appropriate...the rest can go to a thrift store! They prefer clothing to be delivered on hangers or in paper shopping bags.

My friend works at Nationalities Service Center and recently clued me in to donating stuff there. They collect stuff for people who have just come to the US and have pretty much nothing. I can get you more info if you want.

All of this. Good on you for not just dropping your shiitake off outside the So. Philly Goodwill where a small gang of opportunistic homeless folk scavenge for marketable goods and toss all the stuff that they can't sell at a pawn all over the sidewalk and street, making a mess for employees to clean up, or not clean up.

Has Philly Aids moved yet? They seem to have been bursting at the seams.

I know I am way late on this and what I am about to suggest is probably no longer valid for you, Randi. But here's another option to add the list of awesome ideas everyone has already tossed out there: The Really Really Free Market is the last Saturday of every month at LAVA (4134 Lancaster Ave). Always in need of, well, anything in good condition.

And another thing to keep in mind is that warm clothing of all sizes and blankets are always awesome for FNB during cold weather. You can bring them right to the food shares.

Sunday (North Philly FNB) - 5:30 pm at Logan Sq (used to be directly in front of the Free Library but now usually at the park diagonal from it, the one closer to 18th. Hmm, what is that building next to it... family court I think?
Monday (North Philly FNB) - 7:30 pm at Logan Sq
Tuesday (South Philly) - 5pm at Wharton Square Park, 2300 Wharton st
