For those who don't know, Brave New Voices is the international youth poetry slam. I'm on the Detroit team this year, and we've all been working like mad to get ready. I'm pretty sure all the other teams have been working almost as hard as we have. We fly out on Wednesday morning, and the competition is Friday and Saturday. We leave Sunday afternoon. I don't know what kind of free time I'll have to go find awesome food (plus, I'm the only vegan on my team, and nobody else particularly wants to go to a vegan restaurant), but in the event that I get the opportunity, what's the absolute best, not-to-expensive place that I HAVE to check out?

But food aside, come see some awesome poetry! Everyone should at LEAST come to the finals on Saturday. It's $18 to see around twenty youth poets rock their shiitake out.

I assume you mean this week? In that case, I wish you luck, but unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town!

As far as food, it depends what you feel like. Gracias Madre is AMAZING, and if you order right, it's not that expensive (entrees are around $11 - $14). If you want a bit cheaper, you can check out Cha Ya (vegan Japanese) or Papalote (burritos - get the mole tofu). Whatever you do, steer clear of Herbivore, because it sucks!

Out of town : (

Unfortunately, a lot of folks are out of town this week because of the AR conference in LA.
