There is a restaurant down the street that gets Vegan Treats stuff... maybe I should go get something :) It was pretty amazing to see and that is an amazing story about her daughter.

Is that all that they filmed, or did they film more and that footage is going to rot somewhere?

They've already filmed the whole season.

I really hope it was her that pulled the show and not Animal Planet.

Nope, definitely Animal Planet.

Well what the fork. What more would it cost them to air it if filming is all done?

I haven't seen the show, and I don't have Animal Planet, but my guess is that they probably had a hard time brokering advertisers to fill the slot.

Animal rights, veganism, etc. being the politically contentious issues that they are, I doubt that Colgate and Ford and Gillette were exactly lining up to hawk their wares in and amongst potentially confronting content. Everybody loves monkeys and exotic birds and baby elephants. Not everybody loves the thoughtful aside of slaughterhouse statistics (again, I don't know that this show even touches on such topics, but I'm swinging at the piñata anyway.)

And the companies most likely to benefit from a positive association with the show are the ones with the lightest advertising budgets. TV wants to see two or three ads played two or three times across the course of the show, for however many times the show will air. Not a lot of money for Coors Light, but too much money for Amy's Kitchen.

I'd like to think so, but they're owned by Dean Foods, aka Big Dairy.

Fair enough, I forgot about advertisers. I was thinking if they had only filmed the pilot and it didn't test well, that would be understandable.

But yeah, Silk or something like Tom's of Maine, that are owned by big companies, would probably love to have commercials aired during a show about a vegan bakery, and they could afford it.

sure, but they still promote Silk on tv and in magazines and stuff. It could only help sell Silk and make them more money. Or did you mean that it might be a conflict of interest for the owner of Vegan Treats?

I can't imagine that Vegan Treats would have any sort of contractual leverage w/r/t the advertisers.

While it makes total sense that Silk would advertise in, say... People magazine, or on some sort of light hearted, non-confrontational "Healthy Living Made Easy!" kind of show, I would imagine* that bookending a TV episode which makes it quite clear that dairy is wrong and bad might make not make total sense for a company whose bottom line depends on said dairy, especially if that fact was made public.

Tom's of Maine makes sense, I guess.

::ducks::

*Again, all pure speculation on my part, I haven't seen the show, I have no idea what they do or don't take to task, soy milk is delicious treat the whole family can enjoy, etc.

that makes sense.

You should watch the episode of the show that's posted on the first page. it's really good.

Who advertises during Whale Wars, I wonder? But yeah, I'd imagine it was an advertising issue as well.

No, the Food Network doesn't really get into vegan kind of stuff . . . although they're getting much better.

Yeah...no. They'll never have a vegan show, it goes against everything they're about.

Also, I just saw a Silk commercial that was all about how it tastes better in cereal than dairy milk. That was a little surprising.

yeah, silk advertising seems to really be about how it's better than dairy, not that it's a decent alternative.

i wonder how many reality shows get a whole season filmed without being aired. is it like that amount of scripted pilots that will never air?
