When I saw "12 oz beer" as an ingredient in a recipe I decided I had to order this book, so any recommendations on what to try first? I have 6-12 days until it gets here.

I love this man. While reading the cookbook, I pretty much decided I would marry this dude.
I suggest reading it all the way through, because it's just a really good read.
Otherwise the chili was good.

Ooo, I love readable cookbooks. Is the chili traditional style?

Agree and I'll fight you for him! It was a fantastic read, I am yet to cook anything out of it, I do love reading it so much.

I've only made a couple of things. They were quite simple but good. Lentil tacos were one, I'm forgetting the other, maybe a pasta dish with artichokes? I have two main questions about this book that I'd forgotten until you brought it up. Is the Kittee's chole our Kittee? And is the Matt Ruscigno's something the same person who did the nutrition stuff for AFR?
I know the whole point of books like this is not to have indexes but since I usually cook by ingredients, books that don't have good indexes won't get as much love from me. It's a fun book though.

I have this! It's been a while since I've used it though, I'm trying to remember what I've made from it... I definitely made the arrabiata, tasty. I also remember he uses chile's I don't have access to (well now I can order some online but when I first bought the book I didn't have those resources), so I couldn't make some of the recipes.
The lack of an index also bothered me a bit.

I just got this book as it looked awesome. I haven't made anything yet, but I was reading through and was amused to see that the suggested music for one of the recipes was from my sister's friend's old band.

I got it today! Right after I came home from buying groceries for the week... But I'm going to try the Snausages tomorrow since I have everything I need for that in my cupboard. Also, since I lack a life right now, I put together some what of an index over on my livejournal here. Really I just listed the recipes and tried to group them, but hopefully it will help a bit.

So far from this book I have made the Snausages and the Tofu Pot Pie, and both were de-fucking-lious. The snausages weren't the texture I had in mind (they were very soft), but they were still good and a wonderfully cheap GF alternative to the usual seitan sausages. The Tofu Pot Pie was also wonderful, I made too much filling (I'm not sure if it was my fault or the recipe's) but it was perfectly fine on it's own. Tomorrow I'm trying the Chicken Nuggets, and then I have the Peanut Miso Soup planned as well.

I made the peanut miso soup yesterday. I used spring greens instead of chard since needed using, and dry-fried the tofu first just beacuse. Was a bit doubtful while cooking but was delicious! Glad this thread has made me dig my copy out!

I'm making the miso soup now, so I'm glad to hear it turned out good. I couldn't find chard at any of the stores around though so I'm using a bok choy of some sort. The chicken nuggets were good too, pretty basic shake'n'bake with tofu recipe, but I love how this book keeps things simple and cheap.

I keep thinking I should change it since I've had it for over a year now, but I can never bring myself to.
