Sometimes I want to move REALLY far away from KS (and our politicians...). But we're kind of more unique here. Elusive and cunning. :) Well at least they unbanned the teaching of evolution - that's a start ;D I still miss Wichita, and have dubbed it my 2nd favorite place I've ever lived. Cost of living is fab, there's tons of shopping and eating, and holy shiitake the # of stars you can see in the sky when you are way the fork out there in the middle of nowhere, it's awesome. Also, parties in fields with kids and kegs. Awesomeness. I frequented Rose Hill and surrounding areas. Crazy ex. Ho hum.

I've always wanted to move to a different state, but Wichita really grows on you, if you can put up with the snarky "PETA = People for Eating Tasty Animals" mentality around here. It's slowly getting better, I promise!

In Wichita, has anyone been to "And the Weinner is.." on Douglas? They have a veggie dog. Seems pretty nifty.

I grew up in Wichita, and lived in Lawrence for a decade. I'm now in Florida, but plan on getting back for a week in October. I have a family reunion to go to and my husband needs to meet my dad and the rest of my mother's side of the family. We plan on doing the tourist thing as well, since he has never been there. I'll stop back in when we are closer to the trip for some reccommendations, though we plan on staying somewhere with a kitchen and doing our own cooking.

Oh my word, you have to visit d'Sozo on south Seneca when you come in October. For reals. I LOVE that place, and they're so damn nice there! I think I've eaten most of their regular menu items and now get the daily special every time I go. They do not disappoint.

I hope I can get someone to come with me to d'Sozo when I come home in July. I'm wanting to try it. Maybe I can drag along my Mom.

Hey Wichita PPKers. Just got back from there and STOCKED UP on wayfare cheese at the Whole Foods store on 21st and amidon. It was on sale for $3.50 each and most of them had coupons buy 2 get one free. Food For Thought also had a banging orange tag clearance sale and I swear I went home a million pounds heavier. Why couldn't Wichita have been that cool when I lived there? I was lucky to get a bean burrito without lard in it when I lived in Wichita.

Food for Thought is great! And they've started doing coupon match-ups on their blog (which helps a LOT). They also had some cool stuff in the clearance freezers, but I think they're moving around stuff or just got a new freezer (there was one deep freezer of glorious clearance last Saturday when I last went).
Also, and sadly, did Zen close? I drive Rock Rd. to work in the morning and happened to glance over the other day. Not cool!

People have been trying to get me to Lawrence for years! I've heard there are a couple good places to eat there, but I know a couple have also shut down in the past year.

I don't have anything particularly interesting to share. But I am vegan in Lawrence and just joined the PPK message boards yesterday. So, I wanted to say hi...

Howdy! I don't know if you go to the free veggie lunch every thursday or the monthly vegan potlucks at the ECM... If not, check them out! I volunteer at the free lunch when I get a chance. If you ate that crazy-awesome 5-course Mediterranean meal in October, that was me and my friend Ryan.

I lived in Kansas for years. I was raised as a vegetarian in Dodge City(the cowboy capital of the world, complete with feedyards and slaughter-houses), and then in Emporia for awhile. It is a challenge to eat out if you are veggie inclined in Kansas, and not in Lawrence.
While I don't miss the challenge of finding a good restaurant, in retrospect I miss the DIY aspect of the vegetarian/vegan set there. If there is anything I miss about the place, it was the willingness of the outsiders to create their own culture.

Hey guys! I just moved to Manhattan, KS with my husband and dog. We relocated from Seattle and are originally from Florida. I'm trying to find my place here and meet like-minded people. Are you all still around? Have any feedback about Manhattan?

We have a vegan restaurant in Wichita. "The Garden Grill Cafe" downtown is quite good and reasonably priced. It's the chef from D'Sozo and he is rad! We also have a number of vegan friendly restaurants, a vegan meet up once a month, and a raw meet up group as well. I like it pretty well considering the landscape (or lack thereof)
