Haha, I realized after about two days that I really didn't have a novel burning inside of me to be written, and stopped. Maybe next year.

Resurrected in the name of the Fearless Foursome! ;D
Sameness, I found you (search/authors) and tried adding you as my "writing buddy", but your profile doesn't show up. My guess is it's too early, since I recently got a newsletter that the NaNoWroMo team is hiring, so I think we'll have to give them a bit more time and sometimes check on the site... Nevertheless, I'm secretly a bit bugged that I don't have a "badge" for last year yet (even though I didn't finish). I'm not going to update my profile as long as my participation history doesn't show up completely.
Apart from that: Yayyy! And we're so going to make it!

Bumping for great justice.
Anyone else in? I activated my profile last night. Even though I feel that attempting to do it this year, in light of being a first year teacher and all, is absolutely batshit, I am doing it anyways. Whee!

I've tried it before and failed miserably. I think my problem is that I write the stories I want to read that might not exist. This means that I get impatient while writing and I want the instant gratification in the story. This is why my stories are so very short (like one day's worth of writing). Would writing a bunch of short stories be cheating?

I wish I could do it, but I'm so busy with college apps, and the nine classes that I thought were a good idea to take.

I've been doing NaNo since I was twelve! I've only won once, though- the first year my computer crashed on November 27, the second year I was in the hospital from November 3-December 2, the third year I won, and last year I hated my plot and couldn't get the words to come.
THIS YEAR I WILL WIN AGAIN! Despite, you know, doing schoolwork and being in class for 50+ hours a week.

I'm spending 50+ hours a week at school, plus ungodly numbers of hours on lesson planning and grading and whatnot. Now is the time to do it. Do not let life steal your glorious literary thunder! bastah wrote: I've tried it before and failed miserably. I think my problem is that I write the stories I want to read that might not exist. Would writing a bunch of short stories be cheating? I don't know. I think it'd work if you tied them together with some common element so that it was a bunch of vignettes or something a la "House on Mango Street." One year I almost wrote a series of short scenes "Seen on Public Transit" about things I saw/overheard, with the unifying theme being riding the T and the largely-anonymous-but-still-present narratrice occasionally throwing in her two cents.

This is looking more and more possible for me. I'm so much further with my plot than I was yesterday. I didn't even know that I was capable of coming up with a story like this. I could definitely see it being a full-length story now. I'm just worried that it might not make sense to a lot of people since I made up a world and I'm using my own type of quantum mechanics

You can worry about making it clear to others during the editing phase. November is just getting it on the paper.

Whee! Let's be buddies from across the country! We'll rock this shiitake. I too feel with my now full time job + my part time + new relationship (crossing my fingers) + committing to various committees for quakers + rock climbing + everything else, I'm not sure how much I'll get done. BUT, I bought an alphasmart (still have to get the cord to attach to my computer, however).

I always say I'm going to and then I give up after the first day (hah!) because I feel guilty spending time on it and I never have a well thought out idea in advance. Who knows, maybe this will be the year!

I registered, because I realize it sounds like I'm looking for an out, but I'm not! I have a real life deadline. Unfortunately, I had to use the same username I used in 2007, because they won't let you register a second user on an email account.

Okay, I registered a new email to keep my dignity (it was a really lame handle). I'm now "Buhbah". Buddy me! Because I don't think I know how!
Also, if I don't finish the book, it's my cat's fault.

ps- lilianp- hey quaker! <3 Quakers are the best. Well, just behind vegans on The PPK, of course. :) Are you now? Did you grow up Quaker? Lots of questions! I go by lillianp on the nano site as well. Should be easy to find me. DarthFormal I look forward to this.

Too many people with Darth as the first part of their handle. Confusion! (Another person from the nano site, actually Sorry!) Darthcupcake, I know who you are even if I call you weird names.
