I'm visiting San Francisco in a couple of weeks, for the first time, so naturally I've spent a completely ridiculous amount of time deciding where I want to eat! I'm set for the most part (Millenium, Cafe Gratitude, Gracias Madre, Souley Vegan, Source, Cinnaholic (I've probably spent an hour staring at that menu at various times while I've been planning this trip - how in the world am I supposed to choose?!)) but I need suggestions for Sunday brunch before I head to the airport. I was leaning toward Herbivore, but I know it has really mixed reviews. Thoughts? I'd prefer to stick to all-veg places. Thanks!

No one seems to know this (understandably, because it's not on the website), but Saha in the Tenderloin does breakfast, and there are at least four vegan dishes. I had a tofu benny for under $10 and it was abosolutly delicious. People seem to love Little Bird, too! Oh and St. Francis Fountain is pretty good.

Herbivore does kind of suck, especially the breakfast options.

The Plant Cafe in the Marina has blueberry pancakes and a yummy pesto tofu scramble. Don't go to the on at the Embarcadero though, because for whatever reason they don't have pancakes?

I like St. Francis fountain as well!

If you have time to make it across the bay I think Fellini's brunch is pretty swell and would like to marry the tofu florentine. And Saturn Cafe has some of the best pancakes I've ever had!

I went to Little Bird this morning and the vegan breakfast sammich was FABULOUS. Amazing tofu scramble, tasty pesto, Daiya... However, it wasn't very big. It was more like a brunch snack. I will be trying some of these other places, but I wanted to throw that out there. It was a nice place, though, and the staff are great!

I think the Saha tofu benny sounds worth trying.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Has anybody tried the brunch at Source? I emailed them about it, and it sounds pretty good, but obviously firsthand experience would be better.

I have another vote for St. Francis Fountain. I was there this morning, at 2 o'clock today, as a matter of fact. I recommend the poinsettia, which is cranberry juice and chapmagne, as well as the Vegan Thing.

[ETA that they have several quality vegan options, just that the one I happen to like for brunch is called 'Vegan Thing']

Oh. Huh. I didn't even know Source had brunch yet. Want to go.

Vegan thing is awesome as is the grilled seitan!

Yeah, St. Francis Fountain is my normal jam. I also love Little Bird.

As others have said, don't bother with Herbivore. It sucks, even though it is an all-veg place.

I would like to note, point of clarification, that the Berkeley Herbivore is decent. It's still the bottom of my list, though.

Herbivore is decent when you want a sandwich, but do not touch anything else on the menu.

I really want to try St Francis Fountain now. Next time I'm in the city I'll make a point of it. It's so rare in south bay to find decent vegan brunch options.

I don't go to Herbivore a lot, but I don't quite understand the hate it gets from everyone. I've had a few meals that weren't great and a few that weren't bad -- I don't ever crave anything off their menu, but I could say the same thing about SOURCE. As far as Vegan brunch options I think I've had the french toast and breakfast burrito and they were fine. Service was fine, its nice inside the restaurant, prices aren't crazy and its at a fun/nice location if you're visiting. Also, all veg, so no contamination issues...

That said I'd recommend St Francis and Little Bird, and recommend the devil burger at St Francis.

It's just..so...boring. Everything is bland or just gross (the pesto? vomit). And it's just owned by omnis who are obviously just cashing in on a trend, and don't give a shiitake about actually creating a good restaurant.

I liked Herbivore when I first moved here, before discovering what good food was.

I didn't know about the whole trendy omni-owned thing but I actually thought Herbivore's breakfast was ok. I don't have a lot of breakfasts to compare it to though, since south bay has very few options other than tofu scrambles and oatmeal. I thought it was better than Saturn for breakfast.

Anyone who says Herbivore is ok has never tried any of their "Asian" menu.

I'll eat the brunch, but it's so freaking expensive!

Actually I guess I did order a miso soup there once that was disgusting.

The shawarma and the marinated tofu sandwich at Herbivore are fine. The disgusting undercooked potatoes or sad salads that come with them are not. I've never tried anything off the second page of the menu, but I have tried a bunch more things, and promptly managed to forget them.

The mimosas are good for concealing having a drink when your office is around the corner.

I went to the donut farm in Oakland last weekend for the first time. I thought it was pretty great.

this thread has me excited to try out new brunch places!

I really like Donut Farm, but I'm also too lazy to cross the bay for brunch.
