Does anyone know where I can find the colored chocolate chips, the white chocolate chips, or the butterscotch ones together in NYC?I'm sure there's got to be a location selling them in Manhattan.

What are colored chocolate chips? Like multi-colored? I want that.

Ha, me too Randi. They're essentially the candy coated chocolate chips, like the Kissables that Hershey's made recently, and I've seen them floating around in vegan blogs but haven't been able to find them in the real world at all.

I've heard rumors that Pomegranate - the giant kosher supermarket in Midwood - has vegan butterscotch and white chocolate chips, but I can't vouch for it since I haven't been there yet. Hopefully I didn't just dream it.

They do. Several different varieties. It is a magical place.
They have a ton of vegan confectionary/baking type things.
They also had this jar of chocolate stuff that tasted like a mixture of cake batter and frosting. It was unclear what it was for, so I just ate it with a spoon.
I'd say that place is probably your best bet for finding something like those chips.

i think economy candy has vegan chocolate lentils.

See, this happened to me. A couple years ago I went to Economy Candy for the sole purpose of buying chocolate lentils, but the only ones I found had a shiny coating. And since I couldn't find any ingredients, I was paranoid about shellac. Therefore, I did not buy. Probably a good (albeit sad) thing.

I think it was called 'chocolate marble' or something like that... my best guess is that it was for putting in other flavoured cake batters to marble them.. but it was wayyyyy stiffer than cake batter. So I was confused and ate it all instead.

Responding to an older post here, but confectioner's glaze = shellac. Not vegan, sadly.

(although sometimes it is zein instead of shellac, therefore corn based. but if it's kosher, they would point that out since it'd be a selling point.)

i had gotten mini candy covered chips from the kosher supermarket in rockland a few years ago. (i might still have them in the basement. i'll investigate and report back.)

Yes please, Carrot! That would be a dream. It was hard to track them down for my really hard working older sister's 30th birthday cake so I just made a lemon raspberry one with sprinkle flakes, not even actual sprinkles, but her all-time favorite is funfetti cake with the rainbow chips in it, that seems to be impossible to find.

found 'em! and as i figured, they are in fact lieber's (i love lieber's white chips. it's made with genuine cocoa butter instead of cheap vegetable fats. they even make a pastel colored white chip assortment. i haven't been able to find brightly colored white chips, which would be the best for the funfetti cake.)

so, it's a 12 oz hard plastic cylindrical container, and it's called "lieber's chocolate candy chips" and the label on the top left specifically points out "no confectioner's glaze"

in my google search, i see that it's also at shop rite. certain shop rites have big kosher sections that they expand for the holidays (especially passover. mine has tons of extra kosher stuff spilling out into the aisles of the produce section during those special kosher months. i bet they would be able to special order it for you even not during the holidays. especially since they're ordering kosher stuff year round. couldn't hurt to ask.)

no prob. i don't know how they'd hold up in a cake though. (they're mostly dark chocolate mini chips coated in M&M type candy. best for decorating.)

if you want funfetti, it might be best to get white chocolate and chocolate dye and make your own bright funfetti chips.

Guess what I found at a supermarket on University between 9th and 10th (or possible a block up or down, I forget!)?

MOTHERFORKING MINT LENTILS. In a plastic container, labeled as such. They were $7.99 and not particularly important to me at the moment other than for the sake of having them, or else I'd have gotten them. At this moment in time they also seem to have two sizes, small and large. They're pastel. The regular lentils have milk powder, though, but also don't look as nice as the pastel pinks and blues of the mint ones.
