The amazing bar (and bartender!) The reclaimed wood wall! The adorable booth! The friendly staff! And of course the food. Handmade pasta, gnocchi, braciole, ravioli, risotto (breath), local organic veggies, beet tar tar, that forking polenta poundcake! And the pizza is probably the best I've ever had outside of this one place in Brooklyn that isn't even around anymore. And to top it all off it's all totally reasonably priced. I recommend going with a group of 4 and getting small plates of everything on the menu to share. Here's some pics! Gnocchi Beet tar tar Blackberry gimlet

I was in Portland a couple months ago and went here; I loved it! They were out of the gnocchi, which I was really bummed about, but I got the ravioli and it was awesome. And the tiramisu was amazing. Plus there was a mix-up with our reservation date so we had to wait a while (we had a huge group), so they gave us a TON of free appetizers. And I had a couple fancy and delicious drinks.
I really wish I had gone twice.

i haven't even had a cocktail yet! neither have I! ahem! If I'm ordering an alcoholic beverage there, it's been wine, because I'm so relieved that the entire list is vegan... we should change our lunch date to a Portobello date, bits.

This week they have a chocolate olive cake that is gorgeous and delicious. And butternut squash/hot pepper/walnut/brussel sprout pizza. This is by far my most favourite restaurant in Portland.

dazee and i went for a dinner date tonight. it was heaven! we shared a bottle of riesling and polenta appetizers and then we each got a pizza. my xgfx pizza crust was the best ever! it was sorta grilled like a pan pizza, so crispy and delicious.
xo so happy!

I went for lunch recently and the place was almost empty. I had a great sandwich and soup, but I wish they offered a whole grain bread option.

I'm pretty sure I'm the last vegan in Portland to try this place!
There was a wait when we arrived but they took our phone number and we just walked over to the bar next door and had a beer while we waited. It didn't even take as long as they had estimated.
My dining partner and I split a small cashew cheese pizza and a side of heirloom pole beans. Beans were pretty straight forward, but very tasty. Pizza was fantastic. The crust was great and my omni partner was really amazed at the taste and texture of the cashew cheese. It actually wasn't that expensive either.

This place is so amazing. My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary, so we got EVERYTHING. Beet Tartar was awesome. then he had a small arrabiata and that vegan cheese was out of this world. I only took two bites, but best vegan pizza I've ever had. I had their portobello mushroom/risotto and polenta dish and it was perfect. Perfectly cooked mushrooms, perfect green, perfect sauce.
And of course we had dessert - also stellar.
And the bartender! She came over and personally recommended a drink to me that was killer - definitely ask about their black pepper vodka. So. Good.
I'm originally from SF, so it's nice to find a restaurant here that makes me feel like I'm at Millenium (except with a small, dark, NY restaurant feel).

Try the beet burger! Funks piqued my interest when she talked about it and I continue to dream about it 3 weeks later.

For everyone who loves their pizza. They have two tickets left for next Sunday's pizza making class. It's worth the price.

just a note: i heard they don't do lunch anymore.
i was just there this past Saturday and had the beet tartare (ordered more bread so we could finish it, that shiitake's my favorite!), pickled veggies, cashew pizza (seriously, the cashew cheese is like no other cashew cheese, it's melty!), the arra-whatever pizza, the burger and I myself ordered the gnocchi. everything was yum. i still had odd service though. perhaps i just get servers on their off night? i know i definitely have those. we did wait more than an hour for a table, but bided some of our time at Apex drinking a beer.
