My computer is rejecting my camera now, so I'll do my best to descibe our harvests so far. I have a 12' x 12' patch at the edge of the woods in my backyard for zucchini, cucumbers, and butternut squash (the squash plants aren't making any squash, any ideas why?). We got our first cucumber tonight for a salad my husband is making. We have boat loads of zucchini. I'd say 20 or so so far (in 2 weeks). I've been making lots of zucchini muffins, and I think I'm going to attempt zucchini mustard pickles since I'm getting way more zucchini than cucumbers. In the front yard I planted tomatoes, peppers, and broccoli in amongst the flowers and shrubs. I've gotten a few sprigs of broccoli, but most of it keeps flowering. No peppers yet (don't think there will be any). My tomatoes are doing awesome. They're all sagging to the ground there's so much fruit on them. Salsa!

Nice, Jessica.
BTW--IMO there are no ugly tomatoes. Everything can be made into salsa or paste.

Good call, Jessica. AM, I was thinking--could you blanch and freeze any excess squash? Then you could bust it on out for winter cooking.

I picked a bunch of eggplants and really yummy looking tomatoes today, set them on the patio table, and went inside for a minute. My dog proceeded to eat ALL of the tomatoes and half of the eggplants by the time I came back. What a jerk! Oh well, that's what I get for leaving them outside.

Here are the two most recent hauls: 2-8-11 006 by jewbacca2011, on Flickr It's defying gravity! 2-8-11 011 by jewbacca2011, on Flickr I'm not sure if it is the heat or what, but I've had some really weird looking tomatoes this year. Point in case the hot dog roma on top and the fetus shaped roma on the bottom right corner.

I'm so jealous of the eggplant haul. I really should give it another try. In spite of my best efforts, nothing ever comes to fruition because of flea beetles.
I harvested about a cup of arugula, my beets have sprouted, and the onions and other greens are doing well.

you guys have me so excited to begin my season. i just started today: blue corn (for container gardening), striped eggplants, moon and stars watermelon, four types of hot peppers, tomatillos, cherry tomatoes, okra, and some black zucchini. a friend of mine is quite good at smuggling in seeds and we're splitting a whole load of seed savers treasures....

I harvested the last of my tomatoes. Sniff sniff. I'm taking a cutting from a hydro tomato in the greenhouse and am hoping to keep it going in the garage over winter. I figure my chances for success are better because it a breed that is exclusively grown indoors.

Fireants are everywhere! We tried pulling out some spent eggplant plants, and thousands of those little forkers attacked us! Anyway, here's today's haul - just eggplants and bell peppers. All the tomatoes are still green on the vine... hope some of them turn red by next month!
