I'm auditing (for fun!) a 19th C Brit Lit course, so I've just finished Our Mutual Friend (possibly my favorite Dickens after Bleak House), and am on to The Mill on the Floss. Pure pleasure!

Re-reading Perdido Street Station by China Mieville. It makes so much more sense this time around.

On the docket is The Magicians and City of Thieves, but on November 2 Towers of Midnight by Brandon Sanderson comes out. It's the 13 book in the Wheel of time series, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'm reading "Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Haruki Murakami, because he is my very favorite author and it's one of the only ones I haven't read yet.

You should read it because it's super weird and awesome, like everything he writes.

I'm finally reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which I refused to read a while back because it was too trendy. I'm sorry I waited so long--it's good!

I'm still reading Crime and Punishment. It doesn't help that I only read it when I ride the train, and I only ride the train when it rains.

Murakami is fantastic.

I'm currently reading Lost City Radio by Daniel Alarcon. I'm only a few pages in, so I can't really say whether or not you should read it.

I just finished that last week or the week before and really liked it. I like everything Murakami writes, but I think this one made a lasting impression because of the way it made me think about the mind.

I am reading The Secret Lives of Somerset Maugham. He is my favorite writer and apparently led a very interesting life. I didn't realize Of Human Bondage was so autobiographical, at least the early years.

I just finished the Imperfectionists. It was great! I liked it because it was a bunch of connected short stories than a regular novel, and I've had a short attention span lately.

I just started a biography of Emma Goldman.
As I just started it today, I do not know why you would read it. But I am enjoying it.

What's this like? The only books Boyfriend reads are zombie-related ones, but he's picky. And a total Max Brooks fanboy (meeting him was his highlight of Comic Con). I'd like to get something new for him to read, but he only really likes slow-moving, World War Z zombies.

I'm reading Interview With the Vampire for my book club. It's better written than I thought it would be and I am enjoying it but wouldn't read it on my own (obviously, since it came out 24 years ago and I read constantly). The interview style is sometimes annoying.

I have the Thrive Diet waiting for me at the library.

Wait, for real? I just started watching Castle this season, so I'm not 100% up on all of it, but I might have to read this now. I'm embarrassed by how exciting I think this is.

I love the picture on the Amazon Author Page too ...

I'm just about done Frank Herbert's The Godmakers. It's the first non-Dune book of his that I've read, and I am really liking it. Not sure what I'm going to start on once I'm done it though.

I have a month off before my next Master's class, so I finally get some wiggle room in my reading! Thank god.

So the first on the docket is The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough

Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein. I'm not very far into it (chapter 3 or 4) but I like his voice so far and I'll read just about any memoir if I like the author's voice. Also, Japan.

And I'm also reading Half-Baked by Alexa Stevenson. It's a memoir by a hilariously neurotic lady who has an IVF baby that's born at 24ish weeks gestation. It's been equal parts really funny, really dark, and really touching so far.

And I'm also also reading A Map of Home by Randa Jarrar. Fiction, really nice... I'd be done it by now if I wasn't saving it as my middle of the night insomnia book.

And also Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. I have been reading this off and on for seriously 5 or 6 months now. It's kind of a zenlike experience.

It's not really awesome to read four books at once, buuuut I like everything I'm reading so there you go.
