We keep the dry kitty kibble in a large drum/barrel. One of my kitties (Mendeljev) is unhealthily obsessed with food. He can just peak over the edge of the drum. Several times he has done the following: when I open it, he looks inside, puts his paw in there, scoops up some kibble and eats it from his paw.
Then, he started getting into the habit of chucking the dry kibble from his bowl onto the floor with his paw. I have put kibble on the floor for him but he's not interested (I thought he had a problem with the bowl or something). He has to chuck it there himself, and then he will eat it.
This morning (what prompted this post) I was giving them wet food. He got bored with his and decided he wanted one of the other cat's food. He just grabbed over with his paw, sliding the other bowl towards him and started chowing down.
Eventually I will try to capture all of this on film.

I love when cats and dogs use their hands! It is the cutest. One of my dogs also prefers to eat his food off the floor (though he transfers it in his mouth--picks it up, puts it down on the floor, then picks it up again and eats it).

Your cat is awesome. I want him to be friends with my Luna.

Molly transfers her food to her bath bowl so she makes a soggy mess.

That is so cute. A video would be priceless! I was gonna on vacation and had a sitter come over daily. The Kitties opened the drawer under the fish tank took out the fish food and unscrewed the top and ate some of the flakes (like maybe 1/3 of the tin). I wish I could have seen how they did this. I have a feeling it was something dexterous too, but they don't want me to know their mad skills.

Our cat does this, too! Look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2Q3VfbvcAcWe've since moved her food into a medium-sized ceramic plate and she eats her food off that with no food-flicking. Even though it was super cute, it made our kitchen a mess.
