I feel a bit out of place given the average topic in here but figured I'd see if anyone else shares my hobby/money wasting practice. I have always been borderline obsessed with cars and got my first antique, a 1959 Chevrolet Apache pickup a few years ago, then ran across this 1958 about a month ago and couldn't pass on the price. So my 59 is for sale and I've been tinkering slowly with this one. The project for this week was cleaning up the old rusty bumper and getting it mounted. Here's how the truck came, you can see the bumper lying in the grass. I had to cut the bolts off because they were rusted to the bumper and were snapping even after soaking overnight. Here's how the bumper turned out. It's far from perfect but it looks pretty good for the $10 I have in it. Anyone else on the PPK into tinkering on cars?

I'm not personally, but I love seeing what other people do. Having said that....
What a cool truck! What other plans do you have for future weekends?

We have a 1969 datsun 2000. It needs lots of love, I am hoping we will have time this winter to work on it.
Love your truck!

What a cool truck! What other plans do you have for future weekends? Glad people like this! I wasn't sure if it would fit in well in this area. Mostly the plans for now consist of getting it fully driveable and then hopefully hitting up the "church of the holy donut" - a weekly gathering of car nuts on Sundays in a shopping center in Burtonsville, MD. It's got a broken control arm (the shock is only attached at one end) and the steering box is leaking like a sieve so that needs to be addressed as well. I have a set of seatbelts to be installed and I have a roll pan and tailgate that need to be mounted that came with the truck. It's also got no floor or fenders in the bed (just the cross bars) so that will probably need to get addressed before I do too much distance driving. On the short list of wants, but not necessarily "needs" is getting rid of the scoop on the hood and getting it back to the stock look but I'm trying to avoid spending too much right now. Here's the back as it sits right now: Here's the 1959 that is either going to get sold or put in the barn to be gifted to our not-yet-born kid in 14-16 years :)

Love your truck! Thanks! I love the old datsuns. I had a pair of late 70's 280z's a few years back that were a bit too far gone for my skills but I'd love to have one in better condition someday.

Ours was drivable until a couple months ago when the timing belt went. We cider we are going to pull the engine and just overhaul the whole thing then start working on aesthetics. Needs to be painted and the seats and dash need replacing. When I get on a computer and not iPad I will post pics

Volkswagen fiend here... my dad & brother are the ones who do all the work, but I absolutely love my '89 cabby and know everything that goes into it. Unfortunately she's sitting in the barn right now, crazy electrical issues. Got her for my 15th birthday, $200, took 2 years and a lot of money to get her legal. This is shortly after we got her. ETA what the shiitake, these pictures are huge! I thought I resized them!

Got the bulk of the bed wood cut to size and mocked up. I'm one 1x8x8 short so I'll have to make another run to Lowes later this week but I'm liking how it looks so far. I need to get the inner fenders widened by about 2 inches before I can mount those (the tires rub if I put them on now) but I threw them on just to get an idea of what it will look like. I'm going to go with a clear sealer, I really like the light wood/dark truck contrast.

Do you need or can you use wheel spacers to make the tyres fit? Two inch is a lot (in total?, or an inch on each side? which still seems a lot)

I'm going 1.5-2 inches on each side, the tires on there are quite a bit wider than stock. and will actually hit the bottom of the wheel wells if I mounted them the way they are now. With an extra 1.5-2 inches they will clear with a little room to spare.

Camper! There's a seat that folds down into a bed, and a little side-table. He's still working on the interior. It's a comfortable bus to travel and camp in when I'm not cuddling with the spare tire we forgot to take out. :)
