i'm hoping to be heading to berlin for a few days at the end of august (my first visit to germany!) can anyone recommend some cosy places to stay? i'm hoping to find a place veg friendly.. but any recs for awesome locations to find a place would be great..

Any particular recommendations for Mitte? I'm just trying to figure out good places to eat without planning the trip around it. Anywhere veg-friendly that's not too expensive is of interest.

My girlfriend just got back from Berlin and brought me tons of stuff from Veganz, i was so excited by the stuff that I made a thread with pics

Thanks. I mean Mitte as in the borough, which is where I'll be based for the first two and a half days. I'm not traveling alone and while my friend is quite happy to eat non-meaty food I probably won't go out of my way to find vegan restaurants unless they happen to be right in front of me. I'd do that if it was just me. I did notice a Bioladen near where we're staying on the map though, which could come in handy for food on the go. I'm going to Munich in a few weeks, so I can knock myself out acquiring novelty food items when I get there and have a bit more flexibility.

I've been to one tattoo shop in Berlin before, but I was 15 and my friend was getting a horrible butterfly tattoo, so I probably don't want to go back to that one.

Around December 19-22. We'll just be popping by for a few days before head off to spend Christmas with my family in Hildesheim.

Dolores, really good burrito place, they have bowls as well. Great for mixed company. Mitte isn't the best for food, but it's close to lots of other neighborhoods with great food.

Thanks, I actually got back a few days ago! I ended up having falafel, pizza, various pastries and wheaty sausages from a health food shop, far too many chocolate sandwich cookies from Rossmann and Indian in Kreuzberg.

Thanks! I'll check out both. I'm only after some fairly small lettering (which a lot of people could do a good job of) but Boyfriend wants something bigger and more fun, so he might make the call on which shop we visit.

Hi Paloma,

I hope this post is not coming too late :-) There are so many vegans in Berlin that they don't need to organize in one big group - there is the Berlin vegan munch twice a month (https://www.facebook.com/BerlinVegan/events) at different locations. On August 18th, there is the veggie summer party at Alexanderplatz. On August 21st (=3rd Saturday each month), there is the vegan BDSM munch at Viasko (http://veggiedungeon.wordpress.com/stammtisch/, website in german). On couchsurfing, there is a vegan group with lots of people organizing potlucks and so on. Other Natureis a feminist queer vegan sex shop - if that is queer enough ;-)

I am working during the week, but if you want to meet on the weekend or have some Burger or so on a workday night, let me know :-)

I've just returned from a most wonderful trip to Berlin. Had no idea whatsoever that a veggie/vegan summer party took place. I happened to be at Alexanderplatz on August 18th (a mere coincidence!) and I even noticed a gathering from the distance ... but I thought it was just another 'ordinary' (flea) market and didn't bother to have a closer look. Now imagine just how angry I was with myself because I've missed it!
