Found a few of you on here about two years ago. Just wondering if there are any more of you lovely Baton Rouge or New Orleans people near by.
Who doesn't love vegan king cake?

My account disappeared, so I made it again. Ignore the naked signature and avatar.

Bumpin' this because the NOLA Veggie Fest is May 12-13. Who's going?! Let's grab brunch before.

I lived in Baton Rouge (Spanish Town) for a year and a half. My girlfriend still lives down there and I will be in the area next week until the end of May.
I went to a few potlucks at Mid-City Bikes for a while and met a few pseudo-vegans at Whole Foods. The only other vegan I knew from Baton Rouge was my friend Andy who has since moved to Bywater. I hope to make it to Veggie Fest but I'm trying to squeeze in a baseball game that night too.

Good thing Veg Fest is during the day! :) I will be going to concert after back in BR. A good deal of us are going to brunch before that morning, too. I know Andy! He is actually one of the brunch goers. Good people. Mind me asking your lady's name? Feel free to find me on Facebook or through the BR Vegans group if you'd like to meet up with anyone.

My girlfriend's name is Kelly. I'm looking at the Baton Rouge Facebook page now. Where was all of this a few years ago?

Hi fellow southerners. I'm a horticulturist in Baton Rouge. One of my hobby horses is growing little known, under-utilized food crops. If anyone wants a start of any of these, I'd be happy to share. Malabar Spinach (wonderful climber, no insect or disease pests, grows from spring to frost , great cooked or raw) Jerusalem Artichokes - the root of a sunflower. When cooked tastes like the heart of a globe artichoke. Raw tastes like a sweet water chestnut. Daylillies - the old fashioned kind. The unopened flower buds are great dipped in batter and fried, or raw in salads, soups or stews. Lambs Quarters (Chenopodium album) - an almost forgotten salad/potherb/cereal grain we introduced to the new world from Europe. Guatemalan cucumber - grows wild here and is nothing more or less than a cucumber without a college education - they're berry-sized. Ground Cherry - is actually a wild tomatillo. They have an interesting flavor and can be prepared all kinds of ways.
