for thanksgiving dinner this evening, i'm going to make a pilaf kind of thing with brown rice and cranberries. i'd like some suggestions on what spices/flavourings i should use, since plain brown rice with some cranberries thrown in isn't exactly the most exciting thing ever.
google gives me a whole lot of recipes that involve wild rice, oranges, and various nuts, but i lack those things; i do, however, have a well-stocked spice supply.
thanks!

I almost always put cracked cardamom pods with with my brown rice while it's boiling. If you had any nuts (flaked almonds or toasted hazelnuts would be amazing) you could add some cinnamon and ground cumin?

Otherwise how about doing it as a salad with a sharp dressing and caraway seeds? I apparently like spices that begin with 'c'.

I like wee bit of lightly sauteed diced celery in grain/dried fruit dishes. I think it gives it another texture and a nice contrast to the tartness.
