Went to Remedy--ate awesome sandwiches. Was briefly worried they had put real chicken on my buffalo chick'n sandwich, but was assured chick'n was indeed soy-based. Guy-I-am-dating had barbecue sandwich and announced he would give it an A- on vegan sandwich rating website sandwichadvocate.com. Yum. Also: best vegan ranch dressing I have so far tasted.

That chicken stuff is AMAZING. It's locally made here in Morrisville. They make mock chicken salad with it at the Whole Foods deli, too.

We ended up going back the next night and getting mock chicken wings (YUM, but could have been spicier. That chicken stuff is really incredible; I would like to be able to obtain it in every freezer case I visit, please.).

My mother in law is insisting on taking us out for easter brunch. Can you guys think of anyplace to go other than the Irregardless? I just checked their brunch menus and the only vegan thing they have is vegetable curry, which I don't think I would be excited to be eating at 9:30 a.m.

Anything you guys recommend in Durham besides Shabu Shabu? How about anything in Lexington, NC? I'm going to Durham for a wedding this weekend but will need to eat beforehand and then on my way back the next day, I have to stop for lunch in Lexington, which appear to have a dirth of veg options.

I went to the Blue Corn Cafe and they said they would make anything vegetarian on the menu vegan except the quesadillas. I was pleasantly surprised by the options other than, you know, bean burrito without the cheese and sour cream, and they made me a spinach empanada without the cheese. It was actually pretty dang good.

I would recommend (and I think appi would too) trying out Mawa's Taste of Africa in Morrisville. The vegetarian yassa with the fried plantains was one of the best things I've ever had in a restaurant. Even being soy/gluten free I had a few options. Appi, little appi and I all ate from the lunch menu and it was about $25 for a lot of food.

I'm currently in Durham visiting my boyfriend. That chicken stuff is so so good!! Wish I had access to it in Portland. So far I've only gone to Remedy Diner. I had the Tempeh Tantrum with avocado, pesto, tomato, lettuce, bacun, and tempeh. I put it on a kaiser roll instead of sourdough, which was a mistake. The Kaiser had poppy seeds on it, which I wasn't planning on and it just wasn't great. But otherwise the sandwich was good. Hell's Belle beer that I had was tasty and I got the only vegan dessert they had left, Key Lime Pie. It was good but a bit on the sweet side.

I go to the Remedy all the time and every time I mean to get something else, but I always get the tempeh tantrum. It's just too good. We ate there on Sunday and I made a mental note to try making it at home.
deearess, someone else recommended that African place to me a while back and I forgot. I'll definitely check it out.

Have any of you been to the Triangle Veg Society's vegan Thanksgiving? I'm thinking of checking it out this year.

If anyone's around Durham, I'm involved with the Wild and Scenic Film Festival, a series of environmentally-themed short films, and it's happening tomorrow! Here's the information.

This Remedy diner with its sandwich, I must try it. Anywho, I read somewhere in these forums where someone had already mentioned the Vegan Brunch held by Fiction Kitchen on the first Sunday of every month at the Pinhook bar, but I just wanted to say that you can join up on Facebook to receive the event invite + the month's menu. Vulgar_Wheat wrote: The one time I went to Sage with my omnivore boyfriend, his brother, and his dad, they loved their vegetarian meals... My food didn't sit well with me. I believe it was yesterday that I saw a review of their sanitation grade on WRAL. They scored very low.

Has anyone here done the vegan 5-course menu from Yamazushi? I'm thinking of bringing my mother when she visits in February.

I've never even heard of that place! I'm intrigued. There's a French restaurant in Raleigh called Saint Jacques that now has a vegan/vegetarian menu. I went there before going vegan and it was gooo-oood. I want to try their vegan food for sure. http://www.saintjacquesfrenchcuisine.co ... veg11.html

There was a vegan cheese booth at the Durham Farmers' Market today! They had almond based cheddar, smoky cheddar, and port wine cheddar and a cashew-based goat cheese. They said they're not there every week, but they should be there again the weekend of February 11th and you can buy their goat cheese at wine authorities in Durham.

Has anyone been to Vimala's Curryblossom Cafe ( http://www.curryblossom.com) in Chapel Hill? I'm visiting my friend next weekend, and she's adorably excited about taking me there. It sounds great!

Vimila's is AWESOME. So awesome. I actually just ate there for lunch today. Lots of vegan and gluten free options, even desserts sometimes. Most (maybe all?) of the vegetables are grown locally. It's a really cool little place. And Vimila is the sweetest, most genuine person. Before she opened the restaurant she would cook dinner at her house and it was an open invitation to the whole town. Seriously. Can't say enough good things about the place.
