have you ever had that carter's stuff they sell in asda? i almost got you some today...
then i remembered i still have about 10 bottles of Goose Island in my kitchen, so i put it back.

i just had some today! i bought the pack with a total of 8 maki pieces with various vegetable fillings, and one piece of inari (!!!) - not the best sushi EVAR, but a nice healthy snack. the inari was lovely - haven't had any in ages.

I didn't grow up there, but lived there as an adult. Goose Island is sorta famous. :)

First, yay for Chicago. I miss my 'burbs.
Second, I cannot wait to try the sushi, even if it is just ok, because it's better than nothing and it's veggie sushi! I miss it!
Third, I really tried the vegemite and I just can't do it. Don't tell me marmite is different blah blah. It's not different enough. Salt is salt.
I got a really good little chocolate bar at Waitrose the other day for .70p. Choc crisp bar. Tasty.

Where did you live in Chicago Meggs? I was in Hyde Park mostly. I love my husband but somedays I miss Chicago terribly (especially a fifteen minute walk to the beach, sigh)

If the choc crisp bar is the same one I'm thinking of, they sell it at Sainsbury too, only it's packaged in their own brand wrapping in the Free From section.

Yeah, I think it's the same choc crisp bar that every store sells, as I got a similar one at Morrisons as well. Cheaper at Waitrose, though! Odd.

I lived in the 'burbs- St. Charles. I was down there for a good chunk of time for two years during my Master's program, though- school was right on Wells and in the Merchandise Mart. Took the Metra in. Ah, sorta miss that little train sometimes.

My local waitrose has a vietnamese roll type thing with a miso sauce. Its delicious.

Can you get to YO!Sushi? I can't remember where the Glasgow location is. They have a few vegan menu items. Unfortunately, the inari isn't vegan, which makes me sad. If you ever come to Edinburgh, you should try Bonsai. They have loads of vegan options.

Someone (granted, a meat-eater) told me YO!Sushi was just meh and expensive. The Glasgow one is in city centre on Buchanan Street. Is it even worth it to go there for the very few items they appear to have based on their website menu? No worries, I'll eventually make it to Edinburgh and I will definitely try Bonsai. Do we have an Edinburgh thread? You should make one with all the good restaurant options so when I finally have time/money to get over there, I have amazing meal plans all laid out!

At least Waitrose sushi will be the grocery store level sushi I'm used to and I won't have too high of expectations? So it can really only blow my mind and be awesome? I hope?

FWIW, we tried the Soli pasta over the weekend (the pappardelle one) and it was yum! There was a slim-noodled one and a variety that looked like giant penne too.

Hartridge's Dandelion & Burdock is good too.

Waitrose sushi is pretty standard stuff but quite pleasant imo.

I love Dandelion & Burdock. My grandparents in Stafford used to have it delivered with the milk!! haha.

Don't you give me that excuse, eat the own brand yeast extract like good vegans!

We always used to have pop delivered with the milk - Dandelion and Burdock and green cream soda were my faves.

Dude. I can't believe you just said pop! (seriously, 5+ years here and I've never heard a Brit use that word for soda/fizzy drinks) :p

It's not pop, it's ginger. Though pop is an acceptable variation. I guess.

A bottle of pop (and bag of shakeys) was what we were always bribed with by my dad to sit in the pub garden without causing a ruckus while he was inside with his mates. And my gran would always call it "fizzy pop" - although even as I child I recognised how tautologous that was.
