http://www.thenation.com/blog/arizona-bans-ethnic-studies-updateNow, ethnic studies courses have been banned in Arizona, because they "promote the overthrowing of the US government." So should they seceed from the union, or can we just kick them out?

Here's the amazing thing: white people can take ethnic studies classes too! I took Chicano Studies, Native American Music and Asian American Literature while I was in college and all of the classes were awesome. I do, however, frequently feel like we need to overthrow the government, but I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with my college courses.

WHAT!?! Every time as a country we take steps forward, some people take steps backwards. It's increadibly frustrating.

So now classes that promote the interests of just one race, eh? I guess Chaucer is out. And Dickens. Definitely Shakespeare. Most of English literature actually. History is going to take a real hit here too: the American revolution, clearly a white man's war.

I love Arizona for many reasons: the beautiful desert, the Grand Canyon, the winter weather, my dear friends. The politics here is certainly not one of those reasons. Jan Brewer is an embarrassment. I was so disgusted with our choices and the way the propositions were written that for the first time in a long time I didn't even vote. Please know that there are many many many sane and awesome people in our state. They just haven't been elected.

It saddens me to see what AZ has become. Or maybe growing up there, I was just oblivious to what it was all along?
I've talked to conservatives and Republicans in CA, and even they think Brewer and AZ has gone berserk.

Hey, we have pretty much perfect weather year-round, we can buy alcohol practically 24/7, and an Amazon distribution center so we pretty much get any order w/in a week... There have to be SOME flaws. :-)

Anyway, yeah Arizona is ahsome (FLG!), but it's the unfortunate home of some crazy forkers.

Arizona really isn't as forked up as it's been portrayed in recent months. When the whole SB1070 issue was happening we organized and fought back HARD. The protests were HUGE. The politicians in this state are total crepe though. Between Jan Brewer,Joe Arpaio and John McCain the liberals and progressives barely stand a chance. At least we got rid of Andrew Thomas!
I think Arizona just has a lot of old, rich, white people that want to come here to retire for and enjoy the sunshine and golf. And it shows in the elections.
And don't forget that Cesar Chavez was an Arizonan ;-)
ETA: And the ethnic studies thing totally blows. I'm especially worried about the Native communities where they are struggling to preserve their culture and history.

Agreeing with nickvicious; maybe its because I live in a sort of liberal-ish section of the state but really, its not that bad. And very vegan-friendly! :)
