Smoked Soy Curl Taquitos

Made these today as a test for Vegan Happy Hour S.F. tomorrow!

I've been saying I need to try soy curls for over a year now and this post reinforces purchasing some... I suppose I'll just have to order them online.

This is probably a dumb question, but do you smoke the Soy Curls before or after they're reconstituted in water?

I just ordered some too, they look too good to not try....

Also, I've never smoked anything before, do you have to have a smoker (as in one of those machines) or can you do it in the oven/stovetop/bbq?

thanks!!

. I put them in water with a bit of soy sace and habanero hot sauce. and let soak for 10-15 min
. drained, but not squeezed them
. lightly doused them with more soy sauce
. added to smoker in foil (so they wouldnt fall through grill)
. smoked for 20 minutes.

The smoker is stove top that was given to be from Ian (I forgot what his name is on here).

I'm definitely not a soy curl expert, so I need to experiment wit marinating them and stuff, but they came out pretty darn well. You need to have some water content when you smoke them because the smoking dries them out, which is why I say don't squeeze al the water out of the curls...tho maybe that would make them more jerky-esque?
