So we've all heard about the stupid Kickstarter project (anyone want to fund my next holiday btw?!) but there are some awesome & definitely worth donating to projects too. I thought it would be great to have a thread for people to share the ones they've discovered and/or donated to.

I read about Jess from Compassionate Cake & her Milwaukee Vegan Bakery Kickstarter project on Kelly's blog.

There's also a current Kickstarter project by Gluten Free in the Great Plaines to open an xgfx bakery in Nebraska.

This is a great Kickstarter success story, Morels vegan food truck in Louisville got it's funding & is opening soon.

I contributed towards The Punk Singer, a documentary about Kathleen Hanna and it's raised more than enough now. Whoot.

I think she may have baked stuff for the Omaha vegan bake sale. Are you positive that the bakery would be vegan? Because I'll totally donate!

That's what I thought from reading the Kickstarter page but now I'm re-reading I'm not 100% sure. I've sent them a message to check & I'll let you know. If they are I'll be donating too.

Wow, they both really exceeded their goals!

Awesome, they're still quite far from the $10,000 goal. I hope they make it!

Here's the response I got from them...

Yes. Everything, cupcakes, bread, cookies are vegan. There is one cupcake that has New Planet Gluten Free beer (which i haven't verified as vegan yet, but I'm fairly certain it is.)

And if down the road we did make something non-vegan (which we don't currently have plans to do) we label all of our products with the ingredients, and i like to include which brands just so there is certainty.

...it makes me think that yes, the bakery will be vegan but that maybe they aren't necessarily vegan themselves?

Thanks, and sorry, I totally could have written to them and it does say "vegan" on the page. I feel like a lazy jerk. In any case, I helped fund it and spread the word!

Geez Isa, you're always trying to make your minions do the work! I know who really wrote VWAV!

Seriously though, no worries! And yay for funding awesome Kickstarters!

My friends Pat, Niki, Douglas, and Luke need to buy a van to go on tour! They play really great punk rock with guitar, drums, accordian, and banjo, and you should help them come to your town!

I have a cameo in the video as well!

Wanna help Moose's Kitchen open a vegan, organic, local food cafe in St. Leonards on Sea? The contribution perks are pretty dependent on you being local but this is a great project & I think there are quite a few PPKers who either live in the South of England or visit regularly.

They're trying to raise £5000 to fit a kitchen in the space they've already secured & if this goes ahead they'll be open in March. They're going to be a community cafe with loads of cool things going on like bread baking and cookery courses as well as training placements for catering students.

I'm definitely going to be donating as soon as I have some spare cash next week.

Liberator is a new project that I'll be kicking in for.

It's a four issue comic series about animal activists rescuing exploited animals. The art looks pretty cool and there should be some attention on aboveground activism as well. The writing in the preview did seem a little blunt, pandering to the unsympathetic a bit perhaps, but I'm willing to bet a few bucks they'll get it right as the series progresses. Check it out.

Recently, I've backed "Vegetarianism: The Story So Far - A Radio History" by Ian McDonald from the Vegan Option.
