Just to follow up... Los Dos Amigos had HARINA PAN, no problem at all. Guy who runs the shop is quite the character. Asked me several times which latin american country I was from and then where my (imaginary) boyfriend was from. (Me: "I'm from Marpole. I just like arepas.") I found ready made SOFRITO (byeeeee needless hours of cook time - sorry Terry)! 3 different kinds including one with no MSG. When I asked the owner if it was okay he told me 'I don't know. I don't cook. My wife... she cooks.' Dude, you own a specialty grocery store. Sort it out.

'Chancied' with the EZ sofrito for Viva Vegan columbian red beans and didn't notice them being any less delicious than normal. The had tamale husks, massive bags of dried beans, hot sauce, good selection of herbs... I'll be back.

TV was playing the Baptist channel with the volume turned up to 11.

In other Canuck learns where all the vegan groceries are in a 'new' city news... I spent over an hour canvassing Chinatown trying to find mock chicken in a can. Weirdly, NEVER a problem in Glasgow - just go to a chinese supermarket, done deal. Maybe there's more buddhists in Glasgow? Anyway, got a hot tip from a vegetarian dim sum restaurant and got on the bus to 19th and Main. (Turns out they meant 17th and Cambie, so that was another 40 mins on the clock but hey ho.) VEGGIE FAVOUR IS AWESOME. At first I was annoyed at paying $7.99 for a pack of fake chicken, when the same amount (two cans of mock) would have cost me £3 back in Scotland. But Veggie Favour chicken is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHICKENY! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT CHICKEN! Followed my recipe for what I like to call 'crispy arepa chicken' as normal and was blown AWAY. All omnivores (including real life MEN) at dinner all, 'OMG this rules.'

Awesome! I think the mock meat place moved from Main to Cambie in the past year so that's probably why they sent you to the wrong place.

Has anyone been to the Whole vegetarian store on first and renfrew? It's in the same parking lot as T&T. There are a bunch of veggie meats in the freezer (some of them have eggs or whey) but I found some awesome veggie bacon. They also have dried gluten in bags and stuff that looks like veggie pork I've had at resaurants before.

I don't think they had any canned gluten but I am pretty sure I've seen canned gluten at Donalds market before.

Sofrito!

They also have canned gluten at Dollar Grocer--I think it might be mock duck, though.

I buy my dumplings there all the time when I don't want to cook (it is two blocks from my house). The only thing is a lot of items that have eggs/dairy in them so you have to watch out for that.

Loving Hut truck is awesome! The deep-fried chicken burger is incredible. They are really close to the yaletown skytrain station.

I just tried their crispy chicken burger for lunch today with a side of yam fries. Amazing.

That Mom's Grilled Cheese cart has a Daiya grilled cheese. I read it on some blog somewhere. And the tomato soup is vegan if you omit the cheese.

The blogs I read for you people!!

Anybody coming down to Occupy Van? Food Not Bombs is there so free vegan food! I just got home, but I'll be going back tonight, so come visit me, eat some grub, and show your support for change.

I went in and asked for 'something nice' from the menu and was given a ham and pineapple Irie bowl. So amazing! I'll shout you when I next get an irie craving...

Are you (or anyone) thinking of YVR Vegan Prom? I just noticed it's, like, two blocks from my house. But I'm shy and don't know anyone... :)

Do! I haven't tried the hawaiian one yet, so far I've had the Bounty, and Peter Tosh ones and they were so good.

That sounds like fun, I'll go if you do, we can be shy together! It is sponsored by Luna & Larry so I expect yummy treats and I need more vegans friends in my life.

You guys should really go to prom!!!! I'm so sad that I can't make it over. It's organized in part by PPKers and the food is going to be amazing. And I know for a fact that there will be lots of super-friendly people there. It's so exciting that Vancouver's vegan community is finally coming together.

I'm worried about the tickets selling out, so I'll grab one at nice shoes on my way to work today. If you want me to grab you one too, Canuck, just let me know before 2.

Yep, if I think about it too much I'll chicken out. Nice Shoes had lots of tickets left and free sample chocolates.
