Vegetarian Times has a really adorable Frankenstein brownie recipe and that's my Halloween plans for Mofo.

I'm throwing a Halloween party this year, so there'll be that. Also, I owe 2 people cupcakes for helping me cover my work shifts so I can visit my mom, and I'm making them Halloween themed.

We're doing a bake sale to raise money for the walk for farm animals. I'm going to make a bunch of Halloween goodies for the bake sale and post 'em on my MoFo blog.
I think I'll make some mummy cupcakes, witch finger cookies, and maybe some pumpkin shaped cake pops. Yum!

My rat's birthday is on Halloween, so I think a spooky cupcake with a candle is in order. Why, yes, I do plan nice treats for a rat. He's family!

Am I the only one who thinks Halloween is kinda meh? I do like candy, but I'm not huge on costumes or "let's get drunk because it's Halloween" parties.

That's the general concensus here in Oz, however I love Halloween and have always been envious of the very commercial American offerings I have seen. Of course the opportunity to make creepy themed food is a major draw card. I lurrrrrve creepy!

We've had Halloween parties before, though none of the natives pretend to understand the Halloweenian whats or whys, so we just say "Wear a costume and bring beer" (Australians respond pretty well to "Let's get drunk because it's ______" on the whole.) Nobody every dresses up spooky or scary except the wife and me.

I'm just totally uninterested and feel like a total Halloween Scrooge around most people. I have to say, though, that seeing some of the amazing DIY Halloween stuff people are doing on their blogs for MoFo is kind of turning my spirit. If it were a completely DIY holiday with no commercial counterpart I think I could really get into it.

Being Australian we don't really do Halloween. Well, some Aussies do but most don't. Anyway, some friends and I are thinking of having a Halloween themed picnic for the kids. Any links/ideas for vegan picnic food with a Halloweeny themey?
I did see a non-vegan recipe where cooked sausages are wrapped in strips of shortcrust (or was it puff?) pastry, leaving a 'slit' for eyes so they look like sausage mummies. Easy to veganise.
Last year I made a layered parfait dessert with crushed oreos, peaches and cashew cream. The kids said yuck which was fine with me because I ate them all.
There were also vegan pizza mummies, which were split English muffins topped with two sliced olives for eyes and shredded cheese placed to look like bandages.
I'm thinking of making my own nuggets/cutlets in Halloween shapes too. Yay food!

I don't go to parties, but man I love dressing up. I think about Halloween costumes all year long. I was a stir fry once. I want to try my hand at pumpkin pie this year, and I could totally do pretzel bones. Yum. A Halloween tradition my dad started when my sister and I were young was making us big sugar cookies in the letter of our names. I always enjoyed that. We got to decorate them with sprinkles and frosting. My boyfriend (who lived in IL at the time) flew out to Oregon and surprised me at Food Fight, dressed as a frog. I think this is why I love Halloween.
