Cliff in his tweets said it was old school SPN.

"was the last epi not awesome, it was old school SPN, no sappy crepe"

Also I discovered that this place has transcripts of the show.

I'm glad that Sam has forgiven Dean. When the ep before ended with him and his suitcase, and him saying he was leaving, I yelled at the TV "Really? Haven't we done this before?" I do miss Cas. We could use another strong (incredibly sexy and funny and gorgeous) main character.

So the Orb of Thesulah and the town being named Lily Dale had to have been intentional nods to Buffy, right? There's no way that was a coincidence.

So what did you think of the way they treated Becky? Like she was too f'ugly to ever have a perfect handsome man like Jared? They really treated the character badly, everyone telling her to her face that she's a loser and she sort of represents the "groupie" SPN convention fans, doesn't she? It felt like it was J&J talking at the end, not D&S about their experience with the fans. Even though what she did to Sam was bad, they didn't need to treat her like she's out of their league or not part of the beautiful people class, so it's crazy to even think she could get someone like Jared/Sam.

Did not like. DJ Qualls was a waste of character and also never enough Crowley.

Yeah, I was mostly too horrified by the fact that Becky was roofie-ing Sam to feel much sympathy for her. I have no idea what Show was trying to say. "Date rape's funny, as long as you don't actually have sex?" This show has a blase attitude toward consent issues anyway (Wishful Thinking, Sam sexing Genevieve in The French Mistake), but at least before, it seemed like it was wildly ignorant and unaware that it was presenting potentially not-awesome scenarios? Here, the subtext was explicitly that of date rape (Becky slips the potion into an alcoholic beverage, she ties Sam to a bed, Sam yells at her for drugging him).

Between this and The Mentalists, I'm starting to think some of the writers are deeply afraid of "ugly" people. Which, yeah, the actress playing Becky is more or less conventionally attractive. I mainly feel like this episode wasn't really thought through? There's the bit about finding community with fans and relating to the characters, and the writers were clearly trying to make Becky not-a-total-monster (she thought Sam actually loved her, she's SAD), but I don't think they succeeded in making her sympathetic, either. Largely because she never seemed to think there was anything WRONG with roofie-ing someone.

Also, did Garth remind anyone else of Castiel in the S5 episode where Dean uses him as a hunting partner? I thought DJ Qualls was very likable despite the writing, because that Marmaduke thing was telegraphed from a mile away and also LAZY.

Also, before, I liked Becky (how great is it when Sam plays along with their epic breakup dialogue in S5?). And now I don't. Boo, Show.

Yes, I had a hard time with the way Becky was depicted as an ugly loser (Yucky Becky)- even down to Garth and her sparking on each other but Garth getting smacked down. And all the issues around her roofieing Sam were troublesome.

Yeah, this episode was so problematic and also just really poorly written. Bummer, man.

The Orb of Thesulah thing actually pissed me off a bit. I mean, it's one thing to show love to a show by referencing a character or something. However, I thought it was seriously weak writing to take an object's name and assign it to something completely different. Almost like they were too lazy to come up with their own name for that necklace thing. The two don't even serve the same function, which really drove me crazy.

As for this week's ep, I agree about Becky. Her portrayal creeped me the fork out and made me a bit sad.

Yeah, that's what got me. I wouldn't have minded the borrowing if it was actually the same orb. I was like, "Cool, a Buffy reference...wait, what?"

I was really stoked about DJ Qualls. I'm a big fan and I liked his character. I wonder if he'll become a regular?

E! Online is doing a poll on celebrity crushes or something. Another place to vote for Dean.

http://www.eonline.com/news/watch_with_ ... ome/274497

SPN gets so little publicity outside it's own world, like conventions, I like getting their names out there so maybe more people will watch the show. And Misha said in an interview that no one in Hollywood knew who he was because no one there watches the show. So I'm all for getting SPN out there.

I like DJ too (even if I can't ever remember his name and had to google to make sure you guys meant who I thought you did).

I liked the episode - I think you guys are totally taking it too seriously. It was just more of the ripping on crazy fan girls. Also, I got the feeling that Becky wasn't so much ugly as nerdy (clearly she is that) and that she's evolved (a tiny bit) since high school.

I watched it again and wasn't as what the fizzle? with it. I'm talking about the Yucky-Becky-I'm-a-loser part. It was all suppose to be tongue in cheek, but still, the roofie part wasn't funny. But I guess the writers didn't know how else to get the two of them together. The writing was lame, unless there's a Becky-Garth spin-off which was why there was too much Becky. I thought it was kinda a weird off episode. Dean's expressions are the only thing worth watching on this one.

Oh, wasn't the scene of Dean walking into the hallway of the chapel, gun in hand, like the way he did in season 4, Lucifer Rising, when he tracked down Ruby and Sam in the church, right before Sam killed Lilith?

I have another question: In Weekend with Bobby, is it Garth on the other end of the phone with Bobby? When Bobby tells him to call the FBI and the guy calls fakeFBI Bobby and Bobby says "how are you still alive?" cus I hope it was him. (the transcript part of Winchester Bros site has a trojan virus so I can't go in to check).

Agreed. I thought the episode was pretty funny.

Yay!! I checked, in Weekend at Bobby's, it was Garth on the phone with Bobby

"BOBBY: Yeah Garth, what do you got? (Bobby listens to Garth) Never heard of a vamp doin that. It doesn't sound like our kind of thing. Better drop a dime to the FBI.
Bobby hangs up the phone and places it back on it's charger. Another phone labeled FBI Tom Willis rings.
BOBBY: Willis, FBI. (Bobby listens to the caller then moans) No Garth, not me the FBI. The real FBI! How are you still alive?"

http://www.supernaturalwiki.com/index.p ... Transcript)

I now wonder if they'll put Garth and Becky together as hunters.

Me either. The show lost it's soul or something after s5. I was bored watching it. My speculation is Bobby will die, go to heaven, and tell those idjit angels to go down to earth and clean up their mess. Then they'll bring him back to life cus that what the good guys do. Oh, and Cass will probably be there to help fix the mess he made.

I think the show ends on Dec 2 for the winter and starts back up again later. So two more eps left.

That's an okay idea - I can accept Bobby dying if he's a cranky ghost yelling at Angels (AND WE SEE HIM ALL THE TIME).

I am liking this season better than last season so far. Loved seeing Becky pop up again. Not loving the lack of Cas, but I'd kind of rather no Cas than Evil Cas. If Bobby is dead I will cut a bisque.

I really liked Friday's episode! It felt way more like the earlier seasons than any episode this season for me. I'll be pissed if they kill Bobby. They already took their bio dad. If they take the really good dad, I don't know if I can stay until the end. Shitty parents is one thing, but taking away figures that represent good parenting kills a part of me.
